Heartbreaking to see all those great riders (and great Ryder) loose 3+ minutes yesterday due to a crash, as well as confirmation of various withdrawals this morning.

Sad to see the footage of Chris Horner crossing the finish line yesterday, 12 minutes down on the field and had no idea what had happened to him.
He rode 25K on his own and did not remember. He did not start today as he was diagnosed with a concussion. Nice win for Rui Costa today, and I'm really impressed by Hushovd for keeping the yellow jersey today. Big mountains start Thursday. |

Hushovd can bring it when the road starts to go up; don't forget, he rode into the Green Jersey last year when he contested a number of intermediate sprints on a so-called "climber's stage." That being said, his days in Yellow will disappear when the climbing gets really serious in the Pyrenées.
I think Cadel Evans is the man to beat this year. He's staying out of trouble, he looks relaxed and he's been able to answer every attack, plus launch a couple of his own. The Schlecks also look like they're just waiting for the right moment to break the Tour wide open. Alas, Ryder's Tour seems to have become a character-builder. |

I can not believe this year's Tour de France, more crashing, 2 more GC contenders gone (Vinokourov and Van den Broeck)
Then a French TV car decides to take out a couple of riders, send 1 into a barbed wire fence head over heels. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xju...-stage-9_sport Ouch!! http://desmond.yfrog.com/Himg737/sca...=640&ysize=640 Gotta feel sorry for the guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJare...embedded#at=17 |

At least 5 that I can count Brajkovic Horner Vinokourov Wiggins Van den Broeck top 5 last year, had a really good chance at a podium this year IMO |

Unusual though to have 2 run off the road by a car! I have never seen that happen before. Anyone know if it has occured in years past, and it's just that this was caught clearly on film?

On an earlier stage a rider was hit off the road by a motorbike so it happens often unfortunately.
The reason this was caught on camera so clearly was because the group of five riders were on a breakaway and the cameras were on them continuously. |

I've been watching the Tour for 7-8 years and can't remember anything happening close to this. It doesn't happen *that* often.

I think at the Paris-Roubaix last year or 2009 a motor bike crashed into the crowd barely missing the riders injuring 10 spectators. The riders have enough problems staying up on their own, they don't need anybody else pushing them off the road |

Is TSN struggling to get advertising for the Tour? I just had to turn off their encore show which I was half watching half listening to as I worked because I got utterly fed up hearing the same annoying commercial over and over. Sometimes it was every other ad during the same break! It makes the channel look amateurish and small time.

Or Cervelo. Come to think of it, they're mysteriously absent; I guess they blew their marketing budget when they ran their own Pro Tour team. This year it's those Molson ads and Desjardins travel insurance ads that stick in my brain. Pro cycling is a pretty niche sport, but I suspect a very desirable audience for advertisers, middle-aged adults with disposable income to spend. Perhaps the ad account execs just don't know how to sell it. |

Big mountain stage tomorrow with climbs of the Tourmalet and Luz-Ardiden.
This will gives us a better idea who is in shape and who's not. I agree with the commercials overkill, while at work I watch the European feed (Eurosport) and it is almost as bad with Skoda and Specialized commercials. |

I guess I won't get annoyed by the repetitive ads tonight as TSN has changed its schedule. The cycling has been moved to TSN2 (which I don't have) in favour of a Man United pre-season match.

Wow I love mountain stages on the Tour de France and today it showed us that Contador is human as he was dropped at the end of the stage.
I think he now regrets riding the Giro in May as he looks to be struggling with his form. Also Ryder Hesjedal is not in the same form as he was last year. I'm not counting off Contador but this looks like it going to be a race between Andy Schleck and Cadel Evans. |
