WXXI is pretty much a regular station at my location, at least in the summer. WROC ,WUHF and WSYR are also pretty consistent too.

Default Super Strong Pre-Storm Tropo!!!

Hey everybody!

Again, I'm writing this when most people are asleep. But the tropo is SUPER strong right now. It's been a tri-state tropo night as I've seen stations from Cleveland, Erie, Rochester, Utica & Syracuse all popping in and out.

So far I've seen:

Cleveland, OH - WEWS (RF15) and WKYC (RF17)

Rochester, NY - WHEC (RF10), WHAM (RF13), WXXI (RF16), WUHF (RF28), W42CO (RF42) and WROC (RF45)

Utica, NY - WKTV (RF29)

Syracuse, NY - Both WSYR (RF17) and WSPX (RF15) knocked out the Cleveland stations.

Erie, PA - WQLN (RF50) which was coming in almost anywhere I turned the antenna, and WFXP (RF22)

Awesome tropo tonight....not sure when the storm is moving in, but watching as long as it lasts!

Google tells me that tropo is Tropospheric Ducting.

Ah man...wish you didn't tell me this. This is such a tease.

thanks HWP, that's some more positive feedback that I was looking for!.

Yea, tropo can throw off results, getting you stations you normally won't get and knocking out stations that should be reliable.

Check out http://www.dxinfocentre.com/tropo.html

I would say enjoy it now, tropo should last the ext 6-8 weeks until its mid-to-late September.

My Buffalo channels are still weak. Could this tropo be affecting me negatively somehow?

Yes. Tropo works both ways.

This happened at dinner tonight:

A sub-channel appeared on CBLT as 5-2 Jump
and then disappeared (Panasonic plasma).

I did not see any video but 5-2 Jump was there.

Did anyone else see this?????

On a side note, CFTO fixed their audio problem during the 6PM news.
Thanks CFTO.

Had this happen to me as well.

Later when I went back to 5-2 it took me to 36-1, so I assumed in was tropo coming in on 35.

That 5.2 intermitant signal could have been 5.1 WEWS psip [17RF] tropo from Cleveland. Whenever it comes my way, it's usually a flame thrower that sometimes overwhelms CBC's 5.1 psip

that's possible, WEWS is RF 15 though (ABC affiliate). Have received it several times so far this year when the Cleveland stations are comin in. But even then only possible since that analog LPTV channel in Buffalo on RF 15 went off the air, still unexplained as of yet. Still strange what the "Jump" was though. I've never seen my TV get confused with it (yet).

You're right. It's WKYC NBC that is using 17RF [psip 3.1 & 3.2] WEWS ABC is using 15RF [psip 5.1]. Usually I see strong tropo from both at the same times, but WEWS is always very, very strong and sometime even bumps Toronto's 5.1 CBC off the re-mapping of my cm7000, but I have not had this happen yet on the Samsung TV's.
