How come magnet gets a different set of Canadian Timeshifts than the rest of us? We don't have this one in Vancouver yet.

Thunder Bay doesn't get

68 CTV - CJBN Kenora CJBN
69 Global - CIHF Maritimes
72 Global - CFRE/CFSK Saskatchewan
78 Global - CIII Toronto
79 CBC - CBOT Ottawa

We get
72 CTV Calgary (CFCN)

We did get Global Toronto HD but since the OTA digital transition. The local Global channel is there instead.

I know I read it in a CRTC ruling or summary and there was a link to it posted somewhere in this forum. I don't know but it may have been deleted as 'off topic' with the other posts around it as I can't seem to find it now. I'll keep looking. Maybe I was just dreaming?

Default Found it!

It's in this very thread:

Quote:
4.3.2 Pick-and-pay

The Commission notes that....

However, the Commission announced in Broadcasting Public Notice 2008-100 that these packaging limitations will be largely eliminated as part of changes to its regulations that are scheduled to come into effect on 31 August 2011. These changes will enable BDUs to respond better to consumer demand for pick-and-pay and other packaging options.
...
This is in the link from Shaw Champ's post: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/show...&postcount=363

and jericho points it out in this post shortly after: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/show...&postcount=367

So, where is Shaw's response to this? Why don't we have a true 'pick and pay' option?

Ok, Thanks.

I would like to know Shaw's response as I would like Pick & Pay as well.

I'm only interested in real, total Pick and Pay. If I only want 5 certain stations, then I should be able to get those five only without the extra garbage.
The Personalizer is an expensive joke. Four more days and I opt out of Shaw TV.

I just spoke with someone from the CRTC about these 'revelations' and, while he did explain to me there is little likelihood any of the cable or satellite providers in Canada will change anytime soon, the gloves are indeed now off and there are no longer any bundling restrictions being imposed by the CRTC.

It is now in the hands of the service providers, Shaw in this case, to pick and choose how they decide to offer their services to us, the consumer. This, to me, is very exciting in that it does provide a glimmer of hope that we might just actually get what we want, even if it takes a while to get there.

True pick and pay probably won't happen as the channel providers will most likely want their crappy channels bundled in with their good channels as part of the carriage contract.
(AKA Everyone wins - but the consumer)

Also with Shaw now being a "network owner", they have a vested interest in maintaining some of the "crappy" stations we are still seeing. So I am not too confident that they will jump at the chance to provide us pick and pay. Of course I hope I'm wrong!

Funny as a network owner they don't carry: Global Reality Channel.

Is there any possibility of getting any better deal or any retention type deal on the services I am currently subscribed to? Details below:

Digital TV for $64.95
HD Plus for $12
High-speed internet for $39
$115.95 total monthly bill

Not unless you're willing to cut some channels out of your lineup, and go onto the Shaw Personalizer Plan.

On the SPP, you'd have Personal TV+HighSpeed Internet for only $74.90. You'd then be able to add $40 worth of theme packs for the same price as what you're paying now, OR you could go with the Personal TV+BB50 for $84.90, and add the Choice Pack for $35 and pay $119.90 .

Note that this isn't any "special promo", it's just regular price, but it's probably as good as what you'd get from retention, other than them maybe throwing in free Movie Central for 3 months.

Shaw is saying on the bill that they will adjust the price upwards again next month. Is this the way they are using to convince subscribers to convert to SPP by raising the price of existing plans?

It could be that. SPP is an all-digital package so you must have a digital box on all TV's. I would assume that overall this package costs Shaw less in terms of infrastructure, maintenance and service.

Here's an interesting article about the 'good and bad' of pick and pay:
