@Lee_Roy, you will not be grandfathered if you go to the Personalizer plan. Call Shaw and get a rep to walk you thruogh the channel PDF. It was confusing the first 3 times I looked at it. Finally know how to read it now.
@quickcanuck I only know that Shaw's website states a free HD PVR. I don't see a 2 non PVR offer. Maybe location differences? If you have not had a deal for a while, ask for 6 months discounts, a DCX 3400 HD PVR and better yet, make sure it's a new one so that when you have the option to buy it in 12 months at 50%, it's from a new one that you have owned from the beginning. Hope that helps. |

Hmm, don't see any deal with a free HD PVR, and I tried a few different locations.
Looks like the Personalizer bundle gives you either 2 free digital boxes, or 1 free HD box. They offer a HD PVR for an extra $10/ mo for 36 months, which of course is no bargain, and certainly does not appear to give any credit or discount for the HD box that's already included. |

@quickcanuck, maybe it is location specific. As for $10 / month for 36 months, when you say no brainer, does that mean a YES? I only think that is a good deal on the DCX 3400 (brand new). Retail price is $350. Sometimes, rentals are NOT new. Just a heads up on that.

Well I have to admit, I'm a bit lost with the personalizer thingy. I find it very confusing. What would be nice to see is that it shows what I currently have and then by selecting different options, clearly show what the new cost would be and the changes. Right now I have Cable 1-3, HD plus (non-grandfathered) ,Phone (the full one for $55 or whatever it is) and High speed internet. I would like to get rid of some channels to save $$ or see what the difference is using the personalizer with what I have now.

Nighthawk, unfortunately, there is no tool that will show you what you have and what you will lose. That is a great idea, let's hope Shaw implements this.
If it helps, you can download and print out the Personalizer channels for your area and go through each theme pack manually. It took my about 1.5 hours to go through each channel, note down which ones I have and will not have. Then made a decision from there. For me, I was losing more channels than I gain but would bump my internet speed up, plus saved $5 a month. With your package, I am sure you will save even more / month and gain internet speed as well. Good luck. |

I went into Shaw last week and went for the personalizer package and then when I got home and looked more closely at it I realised that it splits the HD channels up into different bundles and I was acutally going to have to pay more to get the HD channels I got before. So I quickly went back and reversed it and went back to what I had which is Basic, HD Plus and a few picks like BBC World. I finally dumped BBC Canada though so look for it to now improve!! I so wish I could just buy the channels I watch and dump all the rest.

Still hoping for a true 'a la carte' option. I know, I have to wait another week or so but I'm really hoping this option happens.

Shaw Champ, what is the price of this:
The "Most Popular" Package includes the following Theme Packages: Sports 1 Sports 2 Entertainment 1 Entertainment 2 TimeShift Family News Movies Looks like it's Choice Bundle + Sports 2? Edit: Looks like this includes Choice Pack + Sports 2 + Movies? For what it's worth, it would be great to get this at the bundled price for $35 / month! |

Hey Bowmah, "Most Popular Package" groupings is a $50/month add on and the "Choice Package" is as you said everything in Most Popular apart from 'Sports 2' and 'Movies' priced at $35/month add on. So two theme packs less in the Choice Package.
EDIT - Updated

Thanks Shaw Champ. Appreciate the quick response. Just to clarify, I had missed Movies in my earlier post. Choice Pack + Sports 2 + Movies = MPP.

Yes I updated my reply too. So Choice Package is $35/month and comes with everything the Most popular Package($50) has apart from Sports 2 and Movies packages

Hey Shaw Champ,
Any chance the choice package is flexible? I'd probably go for it if it had Sports 2 instead of Entertainment 2. |
