Rogers obviously doesn't feel it's in their be$t intere$t for us to be able to compare, that's why they only show us icons or station names for channel packages instead of station names along with channel numbers.
As far as each location being different and having different packages available to each location? Any database programmer with access to the databases could easily produce an interactive database interface to create myriad individual charts, that's what databases do best. I don't believe for a second that Rogers doesn't have databases to keep track of their package lineups because without them they couldn't feed us the useless online information they do now. Useless because it only shows which stations are supposedly included in the package we already subscribe to but can't answer questions like, "I get CTV Vancouver? ...Hmmm what channel is it on?" I'd rather spend an hour online "learning" something than wasting an hour on the phone being misled. |

I received a letter in the mail a few weeks ago from the Rogers representative for my building (I think) offering 6 months free home phone, cable and internet for 6 months to new customers. I threw out the flyer and now cannot find anywhere that this deal is offered! I called Rogers and the best they can do is 50% off my bill for 3 months on a 1 year committment. I asked property management if they knew who the rep is and they don't.
Can anyone tell me the best deal i can get? I'm in toronto. Thanks! |

There was a while when they gave you 5%, 10%, and 15% discount on the monthly bill - without any comitment. Now you have to make with them a commitment for 2 years in case you want this.
If you sign up for this 2 years commitment and you save $15 per month and after one year you are out of job and you have to cancel services until you can find another job, then you will receive an envelope from Rogers saying that you have to pay $50 cancellation fee, plus another one month of services. If you have with them 3 services, then you pay 3 x 50% = $150 cancellation fee, plus one more month of all services, plus $150 worth of discounts for one year. So, you are out of job and instead to reduce your bills, actually ROGERS is helping you to increase them. I was looking around and I found other SDTV and HDTV service providers offering the same thing, up to $20 less than ROGERS and no other "hidden charges" on the bill. Even the "Movie" channels are $5 cheaper per month than Rogers. Don't forget that your ROGERS bill you have for every service, a Service Fee of 5.99 or 6.99, or even 8.99 - which makes the total charges for the services bigger than advertising price. If you put everything in balance, having many services or all services with Rogers, it is not worth it. My advise, look around, ask your friends, try something else - and if you don't like - then you anytime can come back to rogers, they will give you an even better price - as they do with new customers (but you with their existing ones). After 5 years with rogers, I canceled my Phone line with them last year, now I am cancelling the cable service. Very happy with the new service from other companies than rogers. In June I will cancel the 3 years plan with wireless Rogers plan - I am 100% sure I will find the same service for much less money. Wish you all the best! |

I didn't see a 2011 Free Preview thread, so thought I would make note that Rogers is making channel 829 - TVJapan available on free preview. There isn't a known ending to the preview.

Whenever I've tried that channel, I see a message about subscribing.

Problem solved. Rebooting the boxes allowed me to see that channel. Next problem, it's all in Japanese! ;-) BTW, I see it's letterbox in pillars.

I got my latest Rogers Bill and noticed that they increased the Digital VIP package by $1.50/ mo but also reduced my VIP Discount by $2 a month. I knew there was a price increase coming but was not aware of a VIP Discount reduction.
When I first signed up for VIP I was told that the VIP Discount was to cover, among other things, the cost of the terminal rental since the terminal was supposed to be included free in the VIP package. At that time if you purchased your own terminal you still would be charged the terminal rental fee in the VIP package. However, now, with the reduction in the VIP discount, the discount no longer covers the cost of the terminal rental. I called Rogers and the CSR really could not give me a reason or explanation that would be believable to any sane person. So I asked to speak to a Manager. After about a half an hour, I was connected to a guy named Errol. He told me that the reduction in the VIP Discount is associated with the overall increase in the VIP package. Namely, the increase in the VIP package is not the $1.50/ mo as shown on the Bill but $3.50/mo, with the extra $2 being hidden as a reduction in the VIP Discount. Since the VIP Discount no longer covers the cost of the terminal rental fee ($4.49), he says that people have been returning the terminal and buying their own. Therefore, the rental fee would disappear from the Bill, was well as the VIP discount. Have others noticed this change? If so, did you return the Rogers terminal and purchase your own? |

Hugh, my post is related to the VIP Discount that is associated with the Digital VIP Package. But more importantly, Rogers attempt to hide part of the recent VIP package price increase by reducing the VIP discount.

Hello, I recently signed up for basic cable with Rogers for my dad (standard digital box) and he would like to add RDS (equivalent of TSN in French) Channel 41 or 616. I made about 7 different phone calls to Rogers and here is the sequence
1. Phone call #1: Rogers rep added the Variete (Variety) package which is supposed to include RDS. 2. Phone call #2: My dad did not see anything on either 41 or 616. I called tech support and was advised Variete package does not cover Ottawa. 3. Phone call #3: Different Rogers rep added Tele-Franco package which is supposed to include RDS. 4. Phone call #4: My dad did not see anything again on either 41 or 616. I called tech support and was informed Tele-Franco does not cover Ottawa 5. Phone call #5: Another Rogers rep added meTV package which is supposed to include RDS. 6. Phone call #6: My dad again did not see anything on either 41 or 616. Tech support transferred me to Customer Service where I was subsequently informed RDS is NOT available in the Ottawa region, period. I am normally a pretty patient guy but I was just about to lose it at Phone Call #6. Are you guys able to shed some light on this? Why would RDS (regular) and RDS (HD) not be available to Rogers subscribers in the National Capital Region? What would it take to get that channel, without breaking the bank i.e. my dad does not want to pay more than $100/month. A few other noteworthy points 7. My dad's apartment does not face a good direction so Bell and other satellite are out of the question. 8. I called Shaw Cable and it currently does not service the Ottawa area. My dad is pretty much stuck with Rogers. Thanks for your help. Last edited by 57; 2011-04-01 at 12:06 AM. Reason: Merged into existing thread. |

RDS is available in Ottawa, you can verify this at http://www.rogers.com/channels -- I have the VIP package and it is included.
