5900 timer / events problem

I have a 5900 pvr that's acting very strange. My wife tried to create a few events and it complained that it had reached its maximum and that to record something you had to delete an event. There are 0 timers listed. All you can see is the list of previously recorded events which cannot be deleted. There are 63 of these previous timer events. There also appears to be a symbol like a keyhole at the top of the screen that shows the listing of all the timer events. There are no lockouts or passwords set.Tried a master reset, unplugging the unit, no joy. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas as to whats happening ? Its on the latest E667 firmware i believe.
