Default Help setting up Mac Mini thru Pioneer 1018 receiver

OK, here's the specs...G4 PPC Mac Mini with DVI video and stereo 1/8 jack audio out, Pioneer VSX 1018 receiver connected to speakers & projector. THE PROBLEM is, I can hook the computer up DVI to HDMI on HDMI input 1(or2) and get video, I CANNOT hook up DIGITAL audio, only analog(RCA plugs) to any of the selectors (TV,DVD,etc) but when I assign the TV/SAT selection, I set HDMI1(video), DIGITAL(off),COMP(off), so When I select TV/SAT, I get audio till the video signal kicks in then silent video. But when you switch back & forth between TV and say BD, again, you have audio on TV till the picture kicks in, then only video. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Bud

Try this with the remote when you have video: press RECEIVER then SIGNAL SEL and select DIGITAL.

Also note that although STBs don't do audio via DVI, many computers can, so you may wish to see if your computer can send audio out the DVI connection, to the HDMI input on the AVR.

This may be why your AVR is acting strangely too, since it may be trying to get the audio via HDMI (which is the first priority) and there may even be a "signal" there from the computer, but not the correct signal.

No it can't do audio thru HDMI, the only way I can think of is connecting the computer DVI directly to the projector and run the audio thru the CD connection but that's another cable to the PJ and i really wanted it all thru the AVR. What I still can't understand is why I get audio till the picture locks in.

Problem with that is the audio isn't connected thru digital but analog(RCA to TV/SAT input)

Then press analog instead of digital to "force" it to select that input. Do you get sound then?

If not, as a check, try any unused AVR input - say "VCR" using the analogue cables and switch to that input on the AVR and see if you get constant audio. I believe that unless you "force" the AVR to go to the analogue input, then there is a signal (even a null signal) on the HDMI input which is causing the AVR to "listen" to HDMI, not analogue. Also, make sure the Mini doesn't allow for DVI audio - many computers do.

Does the Mac Mini not have an optical or coaxial (digital) output? There must be something for DD5.1 audio since analogue audio doesn't provide DD5.1.

IT WORKED! Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! I have the older mini which doesn't have the digital audio out but this is just great, I installed an emulator to play games so now I can do it all in one room, thanks again guys, you're the best!
