I noticed something very interesting while watching live TV 2 nights ago. I was watching a show on either ABC or FOX and it was just before 11. I rewound a few minutes to show my wife something and when the 11:00 local news cut in, the show i was watching from the buffer jumped to live TV. I am assuming this is the same thing causing the split recordings.

I have been in touch with some industry insiders and have some good news. The problem of split recordings on the PVRs (Fox Buffalo) should be resolved in the next day or so, if it isn't resolved already.
Once Fox Buffalo became aware of the situation (why it's always important to contact the affiliate) they worked with Rogers to rectify the problem (at Rogers end). As I have done many times in the past, contacting both the provider and the affiliate is the best approach if you're having issues. If you can use e-mail, copy both in the "to" line. I've done this in the past for CTV-HD in Vancouver when Rogers had descriptive video issues, TMN-HD many times (they are always responsive), PBS Buffalo several times, Rogers own channel (510) (this one was funny because Rogers, the provider didn't acknowledge the problem, while Rogers the affiliate solved the problem right away), etc. I was not responsible for this particular (Fox) fix, but I now have contacts.

57, Sorry for the off topic post. I experienced the same splits on Hells Kitchen on Fox Buffalo as the other posters did this week, but unlike the poster who said he got the splits on the western feed, my Seattle recording was good. Your efforts to reach people in the know is very much appreciated. Whenever I call Rogers regarding any issue I feel I am really not going to get anywhere. "Have you tried rebooting?, Is your cable connected firmly? Do you have any splitters?" These kinds of scripted responses are really hard to take.

that's awesome, 57. thank you.
hopefully it is all resolved. the only common denominator i could find was that scrolling message at the bottom which mentioned the channel would be gone soon unless time warner did something to renew etc |

Recorded SNL last night And it got segmeted like there is tomorrow. One minute here, two minutes there etc. Recorded by 2 PVRs and recorded from 2 separate channelsand got segmented at the exact same points.
Any idea? I have not recorded anything Fox for a week and have rebooted those PVRs everyday (I killed all my PVRs every day and plug them back on due to the HDD opower ups and down). Signal strength are all good.

David: SNL is not on Fox. Why are you posting in this thread? There's another thread for split recordings on simsubs. As discussed in this and the other thread, avoid the split recordings by recording the Canadian channel that airs the programme. (The Seattle channel may also work - unless it's affected by simsubs)

Awww dammit. My apology. I didn't realize there is another thread for split recording I thought all split recording is caused by the end result of having previously recording something from Fox.
PS: the split recording I experienced IS on both the Canadian and US broadcast. |

In that case, suggest you contact Rogers and the affected affiliate(s)

Thanks 57!
Looks good. Fox News Sunday recorded normally today in a 1 hour recording, for the first time since the problem started. Cheers!

I recorded Running Wilde last night on FOX East and it was still split into 3 recordings.

Recorded Fox Buffalo Hells Kitchen last night. 5 pieces. 3 large segments with the show itself and the two small pieces with Fox Buffalo local spots promoting Western New York car dealers so we know they were inserted by the local station. When they switched back to the main network the short segments ended and the shows resumed in the larger split recordings. Fox Seattle recorded fine in one big block. Fox Buffalo must not be timed properly to the Fox network meaning there is a change in sync timing when they switch to their network source. I hope they get this sorted out soon. Wait a minute.... I want them to do this all time. Then I can just delete the short segments and watch the show nearly commercial free!

Feedback from my contact: Rogers is aware of the issue since the problem is at their end. Apparently some other Buffalo channels (ABC, PBS) are also affected.
