Does anyone know if it's possible to do a factory reset WITHOUT current service on this receiver?....am selling it and didnt get a chance to erase recordings and timers prior to the end of service date before we moved.....not a big deal, but I'm sure the new owner would appreciate it...thanks everybody in advance

Default Aspect Ratio

Picked up my Pace unit last week. Quite happy with it, a good replacement for the Moto.

Only issue is with the aspect ratio. The guide is always full screen, regardless if the picture is 4:3 or 16:9. Normally this is okay, except I like to stretch the 4:3 images. I have a Hitachi plasma, which does a good job of stretching, and only distorts the outer edges. Only problem is that this stretches the guide beyond the edge of the screen and it is only partially viewable.

I know this issue has been discussed before. Just wondering if anyone has found a solution yet.

Sorry if this has been asked before, however I did try and search the message boards and found no definitive answer...

I used to have my Moto 6416 connected through HDMI to AVR, then AVR to TV, again with HDMI.

On reading the setup page for the Pace RGN200N it suggests conecting HDMI to TV and Optical Audio to AVR.

Is there a "right" way of making this connection?

Thanks

(if it helps, my TV is a 2011 Samsung Plasma D8000 and AVR is a Yamaha RX-V765 a few years old)

The "correct" way is as described first (in your circumstance). The reason is that many TVs will not "passthrough" the DD5.1 signals, as discussed in the following FAQ: That is unless they were talking about an optical connection from the STB directly to the AVR which would be required if you didn't have an HDMI AVR. However, since you have an HDMI AVR, the first method is correct. So, the second method (optical from STB to AVR) would be correct if you don't have an HDMI AVR.

Here's a useful post: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=57741

PS, you have your location as Toronto, however, I would assume that you're a bit west of Toronto since you're with Cogeco.

Another question...
So when changing from channel to channel, of course the resolution of the various channels also changes. However each time the resolution changes, my television also takes a few seconds to accept the change in resolution.
To make watching and changing channels as fluid as possible, I would like to have the Pace only output 2 resolutions... 480P and 1080i. (this causes the Pace to translate 720P into 1080i)

Through the settings menu on the Pace, I make the changes and say "yes" to those resolutions and "no" to all the others. This works fine for me, and the Pace translates the other resolutions into either of the 2 above resolutions.

The problem is that the settings don't stay as chosen. I do turn off the Pace when not watching tv, and then the next day, when i want to watch again, the settings have gone back to their default settings.

Do i need to never turn off the Pace? Or what am I doing wrong to not keep the settings I choose?

Personally I just unplug it, wait 60 seconds, and then plug it back in.

I did that many times. Some channels dont match with the voice. I thought by resetting the pvr, it would do the job...

They had extended the deal due to the mail strike but I am not sure if it is still in effect.
The deal is still on for a free rental of the Pace RGN200R. I just took advantage of it (Sept.6). The offer is valid until Oct. 10 I was told.

Default Cogeco, RNG200N: can't set up series recording

Hi. Kingston area. Cogeco is the provider. RNG200N is 9 months old and I own it (bought it from Best Buy via a sweet deal new years day).

I can't set up series recordings no matter what I do. It used to work. I searched these forums but couldn't find a previous post solving this problem.

From the guide I can set a single episode to record. But if I select series recording and go through the usual steps, when I'm finished there is no series recording set up (no red dots indicating series recording is set up). No error messages to indicate a problem. It just goes through the motions but no series recording gets set. I've tried many combinations of settings. Tried it on many different shows. Disk is only 15% full. Tried removing power and didn't fix it. Called Cogeco and they reset the box from their office but it didn't fix it.

Cogeco are telling me they can swap the box for another one under warranty. It surprises me greatly that a PVR that is otherwise working perfectly is faulty because series recordings can't be set up. I guess we can swap the box but I can't see that fixing it and we'd lose our PVR contents.

Any ideas anyone?!

Peter

mpts: There's no point in holding on to the receiver if it doesn't do what you want it to. I have a Pace and I've managed to make series recordings. As far as your present recordings are concerned, if they really mean that much to you, you could borrow, beg, but not steal a DVD recorder and transfer your recordings on to that. It's too bad the Pace external hard drive couldnt be used to transfer your recordings on to it the way Bell's does. Anyway, don't let your recordings hold you back from getting a machine that works properly.

Default RNG200N

Picked mine up today and installed without a problem...tomorrow I will program my harmony one...I would like to know ,after reading the January postings (page 9),if it is still necessary to enter the model number as Moto 6416....thank you for any advice you can offer.

waterug: you are right, I should swap the receiver for a replacement. Part of what is holding me back is that I bought it brand new so am not too keen on getting a refurbished unit as a replacement. But I do want series recording to work. It would surprise me that it is faulty. It must be a configuration setting and not a faulty component. What part could fail that would prevent series recording to work but all other functions to work just fine? Thanks for the reply, Peter
