Do we know if the CRTC has already granted them SimSub negotiating rights? Could they be denied? Would there be any reason for Shaw to say no as well? (other than just to be difficult to their competition)

Also wouldn't this mean Access could lose their low number on the dial and possibly end up a digital channel in the 100's?

Default Access/CTV2

I am hearing rumours in town that Access and CTV2 are being combined to be sent out OTA. Does anyone have further information about this? It does sound new and also innovative???

Well I heard this from the Engineering Manager of CTV/Access in Edmonton.

"We have finally heard back from the CRTC regarding the Access license going forward. The Access over the air signal will be turned off as of Sept 1, 2011. We will not be converting the signal to digital."

So I think your rumors are wishful thinking at best.

That would make sense, considering that CTV is renaming Access along with the other /A\ stations to CTV Two in the fall.

Thanks Emarsee - I wonder if this channel will be available OTA in place of Access?

No problem Bill, the answer to your question is in post 108.

Unless Bell, for some reason, decides to carry it on a subchannel of CFCN/CFRN, Access/CTV Two will not be available over the air after the transition.

Regarding CTV2 please see Post #227 in the following thread: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=128234

Please keep this current thread focused on Access and use the above thread for enquiring/reporting about CTV2.

Thumbs down Access TV is officially down

Access TV Edmonton went down approx 10:30pm on Aug 30, 2011. The Access TV website re-directs to a site about Alberta Prime time here where it states:

Alberta Primetime can be seen on CTV Two Alberta on the following channels:
Calgary: Channel 13, Cable 13
Edmonton: Channel 9, Cable 9
Express Vu: Channel 267
Shaw Direct: Channel 351
TelusTV: Channel 9

Too bad this brand new website is going to have to be changed.

Default CTV Two Calgary off

CIAN (CTV Two) Channel 13 Calgary just unceremoniously cut to snow in the middle of TMZ. So that's it, I guess.

I gave Access/CTV Two a phone call this morning.
The listed telephone number in the phone book is their old building and the person at reception there said they are getting lots of calls from people who can't watch CTV Two OTA.
The person there gave me another number to call (the new building) where the person answering the phone is tracking who's calling with regards to the loss of OTA.
I politely informed both that I was disappointed at the loss of OTA and hoped they would return over the public airwaves.

EDIT: I just checked the second phone number. It is identical to the one listed for Alberta Primetime on their website:
http://www.albertaprimetime.com/Contact.aspx

I made my call as well. She explained it very well. I told her I had a digital converter box she said unfortunately it is no longer available. She sounded like she has had a lot of calls. This is a good thing! She didn't take my name or anything though.

Default e-mailed about Alberta Prime Time

I emailed about the AB Prime time show on Access.

Response:
Quote:
Thank you for your e-mail. We too are sad that a great show like
Alberta Primetime is not available to everyone. I hope that having the
stories posted every day to the www.albertaprimetime.com
website will help you still enjoy the show, and hope you continue to enjoy it."

Many of the entertainment shows are available to watch online at
www.ctv.ca as well.
I emailed back
Quote:
Thanks but that doesn't help my mother who isn't very computer savvy and has a limited income and therefore no cable. Any chance you could move the show to another channel that is available like OMNI? I think it would be a good fit.
Response:

Unfortunately we can’t move the show.

Sorry again.

Regards
I thought it was a good idea! LOL! Oh well!

Suffice it to say that Access Alberta is no more. It is no longer available OTA, and now that it has become a CTV2 operation is only available via satellite and cable.

At this point we'll end this discussion.
