My question is WHEN? It is starting to get very cold out there.
The unit has plugs for USB, ESATA etc. All that is needed is a software update - if possible.
It would make the unit competative with the Bell 6131.

Thanks in Advance for any help
We have older Pioneer DVD Recorders with HDDs on them connected to our 605s and 600 and they work great. We use component cables from the SD unit to the DVD Recorder and HDMI from the SD box to the TV and have no issues recording. Unfortunately, DVD recorders are considered old tech and are near impossible to find these days. We love ours and pray not to have to go to a 630 PVR for a long time. The 605s don't have a coax out jack so even connecting them to a PC for recording would be hard. A 600 does have a coax out so you could do that too.

Smile New Functions On 605 & 600 Receivers

Apologies if this has already been posted but has anyone else noticed that their 600 & 605 menus have been expanded to included a VOD option? Also, the Reminders option has the long awaited (by me anyway) function to auto-tune a channel once, daily, weekly, weekdays, etc.? I tried it a couple of times so far and it worked great. The only thing that I found odd was that once you configure your reminder, there is no 'enable' type option. When you chose the 'go back' option, it loads the reminder (you see a brief scroll bar). To remove such an auto-tune, you have to go on your list of reminders and chose it, then delete.

Hi nflfan yes were very happy to have the ongoing autotune now!

You can see more about the new features in the thread about the sw update.

The 605 has full A/V out (less s-video, and optical only digital audio), and should work with most composite tuner/capture cards.

I haven't noticed anything but the VOD added, to the 7.22 update. I haven't used timers/reminders much at all, at least since I got TiVo, which changes channels with an IR blaster.

Thanks for this

BUT how did you access these 'new' features on your 605?

-- I can't find any such multi-episode auto-tune (which would indeed be quite handy -- either for all episodes, or for just new episodes)...instead of the simple 'reminders' which are all that our 605 permits.

Also, there's no obvious VOD option in our Guide or Menu screens.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers!

There is a whole thread about the 600, 605 and 630 update including VOD. It's been up since early June... http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=154275

To get access to the VOD quicker than the Menu key just press the "D" key.

MENU --> Reminders --> Auto-tune.

From here, you can enter the Channel, start/end time, start date, and frequency (such as daily, weekly, weekdays, or once).

Auto-tunes will consider the "entire" duration you enter, and follow the Priority in the MENU --> Reminders --> Options screen. This means (for example) if you have an auto-tune set for 9:00-9:32, and a second auto-tune set from 9:30-10:00, only the highest priority one will actually activate.

Press MENU. It's the 4th option over, with the little movie camera icon. As GaryE mentioned, you can also press D to go straight there. You will need to connect your receiver to your home router with an ethernet cable.

Full directions and requirements are also available at www.shawdirect.ca/vod. (Website still seems to be operating a touch slower than usual, so bear with us!)

Default Help! Changing channels taking too long!

Were watching the Olympics so we need to change channels a lot. Everything has been fine til this morning now its taking 10-15 seconds for the rcvr to change channels or show the guide or a menu or anything. I went thru this thread and somebody said they had a slow 605 but they moved the remote antenna but we're close to the TV so the IR and RF should both work good.

Also I saw a mention of rcvrs getting slow when the guide is updating but isn't that overnight?? Its almost noon in Ontario now where the rcvr thinks it is.

Tnx for any help!

Hi Bayguy,

Is the problem still happening? The timing is a bit unexpected, but it may have been at the time the Guide was loading for the day. Performance will be reduced while that is happening.

Hi, SD630 thank you for responding!

Yes it is still happening at this time of the day. I thought about disconnecting the rcvr but if it is downloading something I dont want to hurt it. Is there a way to tell if its in the middle of something??

[edit] Hey it's okay now (just after 1 Ontario time). But still it would be good to know if theres a way to tell when something is going on with the rcvr, like if its d/l'ing a new guide. I know what it looks like when its d/l'ing new software 'cuz that happend a few weeks ago but can users tell when it's doing something else? Thanks!

Let me take a look tomorrow and see if we can reproduce the issue. I suspect that because of the Olympics, the Guide file is significantly larger than normal and also taking longer to process. I'll verify that tomorrow!

So I did a Guide flush and tested both while the Guide was being loaded, and the replan was occurring. Channels were changing at the normal speed.

The only time it was slow was if Parental Controls were enabled, and the password had to be entered on each channel.

We'll keep an eye out for this one and let you know if we're able to find anything strange!

SD630 thank you very much for taking the time to test that. It hasnt happened again here and I wonder whether it would have been the guide anyway in the middle of the day. We are very much enjoying the Olympics channels on Shaw and are changing channels alot so we're glad its usually fast.

Default Connecting eSATA enables PVR on 605

Searched but couldn't find the answer.

The 605 has the ability to have a SATA drive connected to it. Does attaching a SATA drive enable the PVR functionality?
