Well, I think I'm patient enough but waiting for a pay cheque from my publisher to reach me (with tracking number, delivered on October 1st from Quebec), and still haven't arrived yet (now it's the 12th) it's really pushing the "patience" thing.

Default Canada Post...

does things in a strange manner. My Mom lives in Kingston and mailed a birthday card to my wife a week before her B-day. The card traveled to Ottawa for processing, then to Belleville and finally to Cobourg. In the old days that would have been 3 days max because Kingston had it's own sorting and routing in the post office downtown and transported the mail directly to Belleville...With the new more "efficient" routing it took a week to get there. the rationale behind the routing is apparently to keep the Ottawa facility operational as email has decreased the volume they process drastically.

the update of my never-arrived package: (in reverse order)

Out of Foreign Customs, October 05, 2010, 6:13 pm, VANCOUVER CANADA
Into Foreign Customs, October 04, 2010, 8:38 am, VANCOUVER CANADA
Arrived Abroad, October 04, 2010, 8:38 am, CANADA
International Dispatch, October 01, 2010, 12:34 am, ISC CHICAGO IL (USPS)
Arrival
Shipment Accepted, September 29, 2010, 12:36 pm, WEBSTER, NY 14580
Electronic Shipping Info Received, September 29, 2010

So it's been 6 business days after it cleared customs yet my package haven't even arrive in Mississauga sorting centre, which from there usually takes another 3 business days to get to the Markham main post office which then takes at least 1 business day for the notification to arrive in my mailbox and usually it's not until the next day I can pick up the item.

Thanks, Canada Post! Thanks for nothing!

Distance from Webster, NY to Markham, ON: 165km
Distance from Webster, NY to Chicago, IL to Vancouver, BC to Mississauga, ON to Markham, ON: 7100km

Besides being completely ridiculous, isn't the world supposed to be more eco-friendly these days...?

I've been waiting since Oct 9th to receive a package sent from Lachine, Quebec. And it looks like I'm going to have to wait another week to get it. It's been sitting on a non-moving truck all of this week.

It appears that the Toronto sorting center is totally FUBARed.
Example: a 2-5 day backlog for sorting letter mail during August. Letters sat for up to 5 days before even being put through a sorting machine (as indicated by CP's own date stamp.)
Example: A parcel sent from Mississauga, ON to London, ON arrived in Halifax after 3 days (today.) I assume they are going to send it back to Toronto at some point (another 3 days minimum) and then somewhere else, hopefully London (minimum 2 days.) I should have received it yesterday or today.
At the other end of the scale: I've received hundreds of packages by ground and overnight courier. Out of those, the only problem was one package arrived late, by one day, during the week after Christmas.

Haha, I read about that!! I wonder if Canada Post will send out the missing mail...? I'm curious to know if any of my mail is in that stash!

I want to know too. The first 5 years I lived in my area, I never received a single parcel in the month of December and January yet I always received my bills and junkmail. Coincidence? Maybe. The last 3 years I've yet (touch wood) to have any missing parcel in the months of December and January.

I received my parcel that took close to 10 business days to be sent from Mississauga to Toronto that's Canada Post for you. They claim parcels should only take 5-6 business days from sender to receiver for those cities.

You will have been better off flying to Quebec to pick it up, and driving back on a rental car

Courier is cheaper and faster. Overnight courier typically takes less than 24 hours. Courier ground between nearby cities typically takes one day, maybe two. Canada Post Express is also good because it is run like a courier company and avoids traditional postal facilities.

even with my cane, I can walk there and back and still be faster than Canada Post.

PS: I still haven't received the mail yet. So the earliest I will receive it will be Monday th 18th... if I'm lucky.

If people are waiting for their mail and they see a delay or something they should immediately let us know so that we can investigate further and make sure the mail is always safe as it should be
CP should qualify that statement. What exactly is a "delay or something"?
