Former NHL coach Pat Burns has taken a turn for the worse, according to news reports.

The 58-year-old Montreal native has been fighting a battle with terminal lung cancer for a number of years. That battle, it appears, could end in the next few days.

Burns, who spends most of his time in Florida, has apparently returned to his home in the Quebec town of Magog and is surrounded by family.

In April Burns was philosophical about his future, saying, "I know my life is nearing its end and I accept that."

I edited the thread title. Sad news, I always liked Pat Burns as a coach.

He was one of the best out there. If not the best. You'll be missed, Pat.

RIP Pat,

It's sad that they couldn't have found a way for him to get inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame this year.

After Pat Burns' funeral, someone smashed into widow's car; hockey items stolen...

The crime was committed at an outdoor parking lot between midnight and 9 a.m. Tuesday

Pretty sad story, but I never leave anything visible in my car when I'm away from it. If you have an SUV/hatchback, it should have a privacy cover and it should be used. In a sedan, items should be in the trunk. There are simply too many smash and grab thieves around these days. Especially true around Christmastime and I would certainly never leave something visible overnight.

I've even heard that women have had purses stolen from the front seat of their vehicles when stopped for a light - so lock your doors if you put a purse/briefcase on the front seat when driving.
