That message is often shown between 6-8 am when either guide is updating or the "smart recording" is updating. I see it pop into the middle of the screen around those times and is annoying. It may take several minutes before clearing.
Perhaps the fact that you leave the receiver on all the time may be causing the message to remain until you turn the receiver off/on. |

Lately the pixelation on some recordings is horrible. Every 20-30 seconds the pixelations happens and it drives me nuts. I could barely watch survivor last night. It happens on CBS hd and CBC hd and I might cancel over this.

dkelly: i have 630 hooked up to two tvs, one via HDMI, other via component. sometimes i will have both tvs on at the same time. if i turn off the HDMI tv, the component one will lose video as well. the only way i've gotten around this is to turn the HDMI tv off and on again.
also, i've noticed that when i have to do a reboot (< 1/month), it works better if i have the HDMI tv on |

I have a show, that I have about 50 episodes of taped on my PVR (my wife likes to keep like every episode of this show), started Aug 27 when I got the PVR to current.
When i was looking in my pvr tapings today, it was now down to 10!! Earliest episode was Sept 21st or something. I have it set to KEEP all episodes, and I've never come close to filling up my overall PVR HDD. Anyone else experience this? why would it just automatically delete a bunch of episodes? |

I want to hear from someone who has Shaw Direct and does not have a problem. There might be someone out there.
I've been a customer for a few years now, but the last six months have been terrible service. I'm ready to move to another service. Waiting for Rogers or Bell to offer the trade your receiver deal again. Many issues during my time as a customer, but the pvr, pixels, and audio sync problems that are constant have done it for me. I know other providers have issues too, but basic video quality and audio sync problems are things that should be sorted out by a big outfit like Shaw. I've waited too long to make this decision. What I'm really amazed at are the number of people on this forum and others who put up with terrible service for many years and continue to hang in there. Thank goodness I have OTA to back up Shaw when it fails me, all too often. By the way, better HD picture and sound with an antenna, just wish I could get my favourite channels over the air. I feel better now that I got that off my chest. |

bill r, I have very little problems with them since the latest firmware release. I'm mostly disappointed in the lack of features it should have. The picture quality for me has always been excellent with SD, far better than Bell TV's HD Lite, and along with their HAFH ability they will keep me as a customer.

I have no problems. None, zero, nada.
I don't discount the people that do have issues, but be aware that those who don't have problems are unlikely to search out a forum to say so. |

At the risk of changing the situation I would currently say I am getting good service from 2 630's. Again, one is a replacement and the other now has about 12% of the disk marked protected to keep from using what is probably bad sectors. I now believe fairly strongly that disk problems cause the pixellation problem.
Perhaps tomorrow the gods will mess with me. |

I also have no problems.
2 x 630 and 2 x 505. I have had one of the 630's since they were released. I had to exchange a 530 way back but nothing since then. I also do not dispute the comments on here regarding problems, but you must realize that this is where disputes/problems/beefs/complaints are vented. If people are happy, you won't hear from them |

No problems. Works as advertised. Record 2 shows at once while watching a third off the PVR. No issues with pixelization. My problems with Shaw Direct have zero to do with the equipment or customer service

I've had relatively few problems recently as well. That's mainly because most shows are on hiatus. However, some PPVs I tried to record were messed up. Two had dropouts all the way through. Another two wouldn't play because the PVR lost its authorization and report back phone number. There was no indication of a problem when the shows were recorded or played, they just quit 5 minutes in. Trying to record them again resulted in an error message saying the previous report back failed. This is yet another indication of the sloppy design and programming that goes into these units. Straightening out this mess will waste another hour of my time. It's a good thing the PPVs were free, I wouldn't pay for this BS.

I've only had one problem of significance since day one: if the 630 goes past being 70% full, all kinds of weird stuff starts to happen...pixilation, disruptions in recordings, playback that doesn't respond properly to remote commands, etc. Erase material to less than 70%, and most problems go away.
is that unusual? |

OK so I think it's known that if both tuners are recording and certain channels are used that sometimes this leads to above problems. So I ordered a PPV over the holidays and was recording another channel at the same time. When I went to view PPV the first half of it (until the 2nd tuner stopped recording) had pixelation and audio drops. So after 2days of trying to get through to support they say service call/align dish/blah blah blah. And of coarse neither the support guy or the service call guy had ever heard of any issues with the 630??? Anyways zero resolution as usual...but i noticed the other day that almost confirms its the 630. I also have a 605 in the same viewing area for dual TV's and while watching a game on SNW the 630 was doing it. Tuned the 605 to the same channel and it was fine. So its either the connection between the 630 and the dish or one of the tuners in the 630. Seem accurate? Next time I see it I am going to swap the feeds and see what happens. My guess is nothing will change and its the 630 and we just have to live with it. This may be a meaningless rant...
