OK. My mistake. I thought SRC was also showing some Sat. night games involving the Canadiens. I guess I was wrong.

RDS has every Habs games even on Saturday for the last few years. This is why it is a must for all Habs fans to get RDS even if they have CI.

We'll whatever SRC would be doing on a Saturday night, it definately wouldn't be the Canadiens game, (SRC hasn't done NHL since RDS got exclusive French rights), so there couldn't be an HD "picture share" you speak of. The only other broadcasters at the game would be FOX Sports and RDS, and has been discussed at length in this forum before, CBC prefers to do all its own show, and will never simulcast a game like say TSN would do in the playoffs, if it means it has to be in SD Widescreen, thats how its done, thats just how the CBC works i guess..

I wonder why they decided to put Leafs/Sabres on CFYK and CFFB? Or is this standard practice?

I think it is the standard practice to send the Leafs game to the North unless the Canucks are playing, in which case they send their game to the Yukon.

The Yukon Territory (CFWH) normally simulcasts what CBC Vancouver (CBUT) is showing. Last week, CFWH had the Anaheim-Montreal game since CBUT showed it. NB Josh is correct, the other territories normally simulcast CBLT's feed. It is ambiguous when the CBC says "west."

Did anyone watch the Edmonton-Columbus game on CBC Vancouver HD? I assumed the game would not be in high definition and didn't pay attention to whether the HD graphic came on at the start of the periods. But after the game was over I flipped to CBC HD Toronto and when they were showing highlights, it looked way too sharp to be WS SD.
Did CBC spring for the HD truck and link from Columbus? The Ottawa game looked awful as always on CBC Ottawa SD (Shaw Direct). It actually looked better for the final minute when they showed it on CBC Vancouver SD. |

HD Graphic was there for the Columbus game. NYR/MTL, TOR/BUF, EDM/CBJ, and LA/CGY were all in HD last night, OTT (given its small distribution) was the odd one out, so CBC must have ponied up and rented a 4th HD truck since they only have 3 from their mobile division.

My bet on what happened. They rented US HD trucks in Buffalo and Columbus. Sent the Toronto HD truck to Montreal for Sat. and Sunday and where they also need it next Sat. night for Toronto vs Montreal anyway and used the usual HD truck out west. They could have rented a HD truck for Montreal and used the Toronto truck in Buffalo but that would have made too much sense. For some reason the CBC is reluctant to rent HD trucks in Canada but quite willing to to do so in the States. Maybe they don't want a Canadian rental to show up on their balance sheet as it could lead to questions in Parliament about how the CBC is not utilizing their resources properly to tell "our" story (whatever that is).

It is nice to see that the CBC had four out five games in HD and distributed the three split telecast games properly. The complaining worked in this case.
This Saturday's HNIC games for Feb. 12 and it is a tripleheader, this time for the annual Hockey Day in Canada. Ottawa at Edmonton is the first game at 1100h Pacific, 1400h Eastern. Toronto at Montreal is the second game. Calgary at Vancouver is the third game. Note: the first game will not be available in HD. |
