Default Sound Issue 630

I cannot get proper audio on Channel 308 CBCW unless I change the audio setting to French in "System Settings". Our 530 audio on that channel works perfectly but the 630 gives a static sound only when set to English. I have tried every audio setting but the only thing that brings back the sound is to change from English to French after I have saved the setting and then changed back and forth between channels. Rebooting the receiver does not help. This is no great problem as the French setting does not affect the language any. Just wondered if anyone else had this problem or knew what the score is.

Maybe check the User Settings to make sure that Descriptive Video is turned off. I'm at work so this is from memory... Options-4-1. Remember to "save" the new setting.

Default How can I offload programs from my pvr

We just had a new Hdpvr 630 installed by ShawDirect. We also have a Pvr 530. I just lost all my recorded programs due to the Service Technician doing a Factory reset. Does anyone know if it is possible to offload programs from either of these Pvr to a computer and on to DVD?

Here's a post that contains links on how to do that. It's in the Rogers forum, but the appropriate information applies (for example, the Hauppauge link):

This is not really "offloading". What you are doing is copying in real time to something like an HTPC or a DVD recorder. Because the programming is encrypted, you cannot download/offload.

I have been recording shows off my 530 PVR for several years with very little problem. Just hook up a DVD recorder between your 530 and your Television set. Use composite cables or Component cables to do this. I had problems when I was using the HDMI/DVI cable even though the DVD recorder was not using the HDM/DVII connections, For some reason it interfered with the recordings and gave me a fair number of bad discs. When I did not connect the HDMI/DVI on the system it worked perfectly.

Default Quick access to captions ?

Hi all, first post.

Switched to Shaw Direct just in the past month. Definitely a few things I like about its PVR over the Rogers one I had, but one thing I particularly dislike is (so far) I can't find any quick/easy way to toggle captions on and off.

I've been going in through options / system / captions (doing this from memory atm) and then moving the "HD captions on" selection up/down.

Unfortunately, as the last step has to be "navigated", I can't even just memorize some numeric key sequence, which might at least be semi-convenient.

Would appreciate any tips!

Thanks

There is a button sequence to access the captioning. I can't remember what it is but I'm sure someone will remember.

Help button + C button on the 630 remote.

That toggles captioning on and off.

I find that if you are watching a recorded program, you may need to hit pause after turning captioning on and then resume play to get the captioning to happen. And I also find on some shows, the captioning is just horrible.

But maybe that's just my machine.

Default How to Factory Reset HD630PVR?

While recording Grammy Awards last night, I accessed PVR and tried to play a previous recording. The whole machine froze. Nothing on remote or front panel would function. Only recourse was to pull the power cord. This certainly unfroze the machine, but it also wiped out all recordings on the PVR. Now I can't access any PVR functions, though receiver works normally.

Since all is erased anyway (or so it appears), what is the remote control key sequence to do a Factory Reset. I don't mind if it formats / erases all on hard disk; I just want the PVR to work again. A service rep gave me key sequence in past for this: it involves accessing a hidden menu.

Worst case is I expect the hard disk crashed and may need to be replaced if formatting won't resolve.

Out of curiosity, was it right at the end of the Foo Fighters piece, around 10 PM our time?
That's when my receiver locked up.

Options-4-9-8-8-6. You can get a rehit after on the website or through their automated refresh feature on their phone system.

It was about one hour into the show approximately (9:00 pm EST). I was recording then tried to watch the first hour of the show via the PVR. So it was recording to the same file I tried to watch. I also used a rewind command. I think all of this was too much for the machine.

So it was roughly the same time... wonder if it is the same thing as the "Boston Pizza" commercial a few year back that would frig up the 530s...
