Exclamation Virus?

So after dealing with about 10 530's over the years, I'm now dealing with the new 630 problems. I was weary about getting the new one, but the last 530 had finally got beyond bareable, so we had too.

Anywho, here we go again, it won't record any shows, none, nada, zippo. We phoned and were told it's a virus and a patch won't be out till end of the month. There's nothing to be done. Huh?

Why don't I see anything about this along with all the other 630 problem thread. If it was a virus, why isn't everyone affected. Is this just another line from SC? Unreal......

A virus? Did customer service/tech actually use the word "virus?"
(I guess you could make the argument that a bug in the code is effectively a virus, I just find it hard to believe Shaw would call it that)

If it will not record at all, there is something clearly wrong, and something can be done. Have you attempted a factory reset?

Yes, the service rep on the phone said that "someone uploaded a virus to their system"

Oh, I forgot, no we didn't do a factory reset, the guy said nothing can be done till the patch is out. PS: Now, I just lost my guide: No Data, never ending with these machines....

A virus was uploaded to the system? Uh huh...

There is a software update scheduled for release in a couple weeks that is designed to fix some bugs...They seriously told you someone uploaded a virus to the system? I'm confused....

BTW: Try a factory reset. It might have some effect.

Do not believe any CSR over the phone, ever. They know what they are talking about approx 30% of the time(I don't just mean Shaw Direct) and make up stories about 30% of the time, IMHO!

Hi D0TC0M,

This is caused by having the 4x3 Override enabled in OPTIONS 4-5 (Video Settings). It will happen when you're playing back a recording in the "opposite" format to what you're tuned to (e.g. playing back SD while tuned to an HD channel).

Pressing any key (e.g. DOWN arrow) will refresh the screen immediately.

Hi monkeygirl,

There is no virus.

When you say it won't record any shows, do you mean it won't record any shows ever? Or it stops recording, and requires a Front Panel Reset to recover?

Are you able to use LOD by pausing the show you're currently watching? Are you able to watch any recordings in the PVR List?

A permanent inability to use LOD or watch/record any programs points to a defective Hard Drive.

If all shows just appear as N/A in the MENU --> PVR --> Options screen (including newly scheduled ones), it may be a database issue.

Either way, it sounds like more troubleshooting is definitely in order to get this resolved for you. Give us another call, or send me a PM with your account information and I'll put you in touch with the right folks.

I just had a HDPVR 630 installed and all seems ok with me except 400 (TSN) is not showing up at all. Nothing in the guide. When I press 4-0-0 nothing happens and stays on the same channel I was already on. I thought TSN was in the essentials category and should be automatic. Weird. I can still watch on my other TVs with the standard receiver.

It happens from time to time... Just do a front panel reset... Press and hold the power button on the front of the box until the display goes out. This should bring back TSN. The Score SD is a different problem which should be fixed in the next firmware update.

Default 630 want to record only part of program

How do I record only part of a program. Watching a 2 hour program halfway through I see a 5 min part I want to record and nothing else. not the whole thing up to that part. This would be good for not recording commercials also.

Only way to do this would be to tell the unit to start recording immediately (hit the rec button) and then when you want it to stop hit the rec button again. There's no way for the receiver to be able to record only the program and drop the commercials as the unit has no way of knowing when a commercial has come on.
