Default Older CRT TV's and the 630

I pass this on to anyone thinking of hooking up a 630 to an older CRT TV.
These TV's will accept ONLY 480i signals. The 630 defaults to 1080i, so if you try to hook it up via the component input (RGB) of a CRT TV, you'll get a screen full of lines and dots. This will also happen if you do a factory reset.
If you connect the 630 to a composite TV input, then you can access the menus and switch the res to 480i.
An easier way, and this trick was told to me by a Shaw Tech guy, Press Options, 4,5, and then keep pressing 6 and the res will change through the various options. I tried it and it works!
The video quality on my Sony KV36F is truly outstanding on the HD channels. Most of the Standard Def channels are also very good with some exceptions which are obviously over-compressed, or just poor uplink signals. In fact, I would go so far as saying that the video on SD channels looks better on the old Sony CRT than on my newer Bravia.
I had emailed this info to Shaw, and they called me back within hours and they said they were aware of the problem and it will be addressed in the next firmware upgrade. He couldn't give me an ETA, but said it should be "soon" I am very impressed with their response.

Default Call display

My call display stopped working on Dec 10th The lady at the help desk suggested a soft boot reset.. which as expected did not solve the problem.
Any one else have trouble with the call display feature... and has found a fix?

i have been getting tuner lock like others, its only one of the two tuners at at a time, and i never get the 'rec' light coming on when it happens like others have reported, but i assume its the same issue that will be addressed with firmware 0.14?

secondly, anyone ever used an hdmi splitter with the 630? i have my 630 connected to my tv in the basement, and would like to connect it to the one upstairs as well, especially since the remote will work anywhere in the house, unlike an ir remote.

my 3rd issue is that 'weekday' manual recordings happen sun to thurs, not mon to fri. i havent seen any setting to fix this (besides switching to daily recordings), and i havent found any mention of this issue in forums. anyone else experience this?

I use an HDMI splitter with the 630, I do have format confusion (TV aspect is not right) when switching from HD to SD channels but find this goes away when both TV's are turned on, thinking it is the splitter being confused. Not a big deal since we watch HD channels 90% of the time and only record HD programs.

which splitter are you using? i typically stretch SD channels to fill the screen anyway, and only fuss about the AR on HD. I'm running the 630 with the video settings on 'native' so my display devices are handleing the AR anyway. any audio issues? i was on monoprice reading reviews and one fellow was having problems with his splitter downsampling to the stereo (because his upstairs tv was only stereo) thus loosing 5.1 in the theater if the upstairs tv was on. if figure if i force the 630 to do pass through and not resample/convert i should be able to avoid the issue.

Hi all, I am new to this forum as I stumbled across it quite by accident when I googled a problem with my new 630 which I recieved for Christmas.Activated it Christmas day and discovered a flickering problem on many non-HD channnels when hooked up to my HDTV with supplied HDMI cable.Thinking it was a cable problem since the salesperson told my wife when she purchased the unit that the cable that came with it was poor quality, today I went and bought a Monster Cable HDMI cable.I might also add that when that when i hooked the unit up via component video cables the problem went away.Long story short the new HDMI cable did not solve the problem so I called Shaw Direct, the CR felt that the problem is the reciever itself.I have my doubts, anyone else encounter this?
Thanks in advance from a newbie....

I assume you are referring to a flicker that lasts for a fraction of a second? It's a software bug. I see it sometimes, and it's been reported by others as well. Hopefully it will be fixed with the software update due soon.

No it's longer than a fraction of a second and very constant, really annoying.Still doubtful it's a reciever issue but one never knows.

Why do you doubt it's a receiver issue? Did you have the problem before the 630?

How often is very constant? Every few minutes? Every few seconds?

This is a known bug in the 630 firmware and they say this will be corrected with the next firmware update. God only knows when that will happen. Shaw Direct says an update is "coming soon" but we long time SD subs know that could mean 2 weeks or 2 years from now.

Can you go into video settings and tell us what your video output is set to? Native? HDMI? I'm just wondering if the Standard Def channels are outputting 480i and the TV is just handling it really badly. If it's on Native or HDMI, try forcing it to 1080i and see if the issue goes away.

The cable that comes in the box is fine. The salesman was just trying to get her to buy an overpriced cable. Don't let the floor people fool you; for a standard 1 or 2 m cable a $50 Monster Cable is no better than the $5 cable you can buy at monoprice online.

Default Missing every 2nd Channel on the 630

I Recently set up both a 605 and 630, and have good signal on both - LOVE IT overall (as I am a former Bell customer and just done with them!)

The 630 PVR functions work fine & all running thru an Integra AV Receiver - Problem is it switches between Odd Channels working & Even ones depending on the day (or what the first chanell is I watch)...

If I tune in 310 (TSN HD), I won't pick up 311, 313 etc. BUT 312 and 314 etc will work fine...

I haven't done a reset as I have read others have done with different errors...but wondering if anyone else has seen this issue (and how you solved it!)..NOTE the problem is ONLY on the 630 ALL channels work fine on the 605.

Thanks all
