If I understand what you are saying correctly it is that you do not see the channels in order in the guide. I know when I installed the new hard drive and did a re-hit for my progrmming the channels numbers were in an odd sequence as well. Try holding down the power button for 5-10 seconds until the receiver reboots and see if the channels come back in order then.

Yes, my channel numbers seem to jump all over the place in the guide.
I will try a reboot as suggested and see if that helps. I'll check and see what version of the firmware I'm on as well. Darryl |

Hi, We recently switched from Rogers to Shaw and have the 630. We are currently in our RV in Georgia using the 630 and an e75 dish. The picture quality is fine, signal strength on the tuning meter is a little low at 72. Most of the time all is well, but occasionally a recording does not seem to work, the recording light comes on at the correct time but does not go off when it should nor is the programme recorded. The only cure is to pull the power. This has happened 3 times in 10 days.
Tonight we turned on the set to find a recording from channel 300 had not recorded. In fact when we selected 300 nothing happened the channel we were on continued to show. I tried Slice and Discovery and the same thing. All the "basic" channels were there, but the ones I tried in in the digital favourites package didn't appear to be available. Again, pulling the power fixed this. I am a little upset at the lack of reliable recording. Any ideas? |

wooly - you shouldn't pull the power when you have these problems, it is bad for the 630 -- the better solution is a soft reset - press and hold the power button for 10 seconds.
The recording light staying on when it shouldn't be on is called a tuner lock-up and this is indeed a problem with the 630 with most of us experiencing this problem fairly regularly. 3 times in 10 days seems a bit much though. Disappearing channels is also a problem lots of us have, though usually it is only a single channel. Soft resets and letting the guide load totally before playing with the 630 (I think it's 20 mins) usually fixes this too. Some people have called SD to do a factory reset on their 630s and this has seemed to help some. I don't know if that's an option for you being in Georgia currently though… Hope this is of some help - or at least lets you know you're not alone

Thanks ElanaH,
I guessed I wasn't alone in the problems! OK on the soft reset rather than yanking the power I understand that the factory reset will kill all recordings on the disk ? We'll see how it goes. I guess I plead guilty to not letting the guide load fully before playing. We normally don't discover the issue until we sit down to watch a programme, so we don't want to wait 20 minutes. I'll soft reset before hitting the sack tonight and leave it to do its thing. Wooly |

Been quite surprized with the 630 to date. I was sort of expecting the same fiasco as when the 530 was launched but this has been much better for me.
My biggest complaint is how the unit chooses which episodes to record and at which time. I like that you can record two things and watch another recording, but find it annoying at times too. For example: Last night I have setup to record Boardwalk Empire, Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters. It picked to record both Housewives and Empire at 9pm. This of course means that you can't watch another live program and there was no way I was going to miss the Packers beat up on those poor Cowboys You would think it would automatically pick a different time so that it would not record two things at once so you can still watch a live program. I have manually adjusted all my recordings to avoid conflicts like this. I have also noticed that it tends to pick episodes on Canadian Channels versus the US networks.....probably not a coincidence |

If you select the channel and time for your shows....IE. The Walking Dead, AMC, HD at 10:00PM - it will ALWAYS try to record it at that time. If the show is repeated later - say 2:00AM same channel, select that as your series record and it will stay and record at that time. You must select RECORD NEW ONLY - if you have selected RECORD ALL - then I think it will hunt for the shows and record every episode on any channel.
As far as Canadian versus US - never noticed but if you pick the Canadian channel as your series record - it will always record fro the Canadian channel. Make sense? Cheers |

I have it setup to record only new episodes on HD only channels for all my weekly recordings. The problem with setting a time and channel is if the show is pre-empted or is running late (like many network shows during football/basketball/hockey season) you miss part of the show. The whole purpose of the new design is to have the functionality of the guide to find the episode and record it for you...which it does do. I just think it should be "smart" enough to timeshift and find the episodes without having to use the dual recording feature unless absolutely necessary - as when it does it stops the main functionality of a digital receiver which is to watch TV. I believe the 630 will chooses the Canadian HD channel when you have selected "HD channels only" for recording only because the Canadian HD channels (at least in the asdvanced lineup) have lower channel numbers than the American HD network channels. It's not a CRTC conspiracy! (Yet!)
The recording time is driven by the guide, which can not be updated dynamically. I avoid the problem of missing recordings due to schedule changes such as sports programs going late, or Presidential addresses, by wherever possible directing the 630 to record on a specific western channel - such as a Seattle network station. Thic causes as much recording to as possible to occur after 11 o'clock, and leaves a tuner available for prime-time viewing. |

I believe that it finds the first instance of the program if you don't select a specific channel. Yes it would be nice for it sort recordings so that there was a free tuner as much as possible, but you can easily do this yourself too as Rob1 has pointed out. It's a easy fix and you can check your upcomming list to see if there's any point where there are going to be dual recordings going

Tonight I noticed 'House' didn't record. I checked my upcoming list and it was empty (should have been several programs there). I checked my options list and all the programs said N/A which too is wrong. I tried a soft reset - no change.
I went into my list, picked a program and just changed a couple random options (from HD only to SD etc) and I saved the changes. I went back to my list and everything was there with the dates they were set to record. I changed back the program that I messed with (from HD to SD etc) saved the changes and everything was still good...........weird. |

Had a weird issue here... Normally I have Monday nights set to record the four CBS comedies and also House on Fox. All are set to record New/HD.
House (900p) recorded, as did HIMYM (900), RoE (930), and M&M (1030). T1/2M (at 10) did not record. Both red record lights were on for the first hour, and one light remained on for the last hour. I didn't know something was wrong until this morning. In effect, the receiver skipped the 10pm recording that was scheduled for the same channel before and after this time slot. I turn off my receiver every day as well. Can't see it being a lockup if it recorded at 1030. MOD: Feel free to move to the other 630 thread. |
