This was way overdue IMO.

Just so folks aren't confused residential directories are the White Pages. The company will still deliver the Yellow Pages.

The white pages will continue in smaller markets because they are combined with the Yellow Pages.

IMHO, phone directories should have been made optional 10 years ago. I've been using online directories such as 411.ca since about that time. One company released a directory on CD about 15 years ago. Don't know what happened to that idea but it was better than a phone book. To me, paper based phone directories are a waste of money and resources. That includes all the pages, white, yellow or blue.

When's the last time anyone used a hardcopy of either the White or Yellow pages? It's been well over 5-6 years for me.

All the telephone directories, white or yellow, delivered to home went straight to the Blue Box. Instead of home delivery, I think the directories should be made available at public places like shopping malls or libraries for those who want them.

I think they should charge $12 for them and lower everyone's phone bills by $1/mo. I have a feeling that advertising revenue keeps the yellow pages from being discontinued though.

When I used to work for Bell people would come into the store looking for directories upset that they only recieve one. I still remember the day that an elderly gentleman asked for help to bring 7 directories to his car because they were too heavy to carry but he required one directory for every outlet in his house.

I would say that I use a directory about 4 times/year, and if I didn't have a paper one handy I would use canada411.

I use them all the time...to prop up items/furniture around the house.

Then maybe I should've asked who uses either phone directory for its intended purpose?

My paper directories have gone straight from Mailbox to recycling box. A few times when it was garbage day.. I managed to only have to step 3 steps from mailbox to recycling box.

What a waste of resources?

Internet is still not available to all Canadians. The majority of rural citizens cannot get broadband Internet. I think sometimes city folk forget that. But yes, discontinue the books for major cities.

great idea, but this should've been done a while back. I do use phone books, but I usually use 411.ca more often
