I am about to move into a new condo tower. I called Bell's MDU line, and they're saying the building is not wired. However there is a big dish on the roof. I asked the constructor and they told me Bell put the dish up.
I saw a gray box in the wiring closet, with an NAS LMX-42 in it with a wire that seems to be coming from the basement in the input. This box is right next to the Videotron box. Is there a way to know for sure if the building is MDU? What do you suggest if the constructor and Bev keep throwing the ball to one another? Thanks |

With what you say, it is wired for the Stacked System and i would be 99% sure it has both 91 & 82. Maybe you can confirm that there are 2 x Dish's on the roof.
It is very comon for Bell not to know a building is built with a "Backbone". Just call for an installation the installer should be able to figure it out for you. |

Thanks for your reply Pinza. You mention to confirm if there are 2 dish's on the roof. There is only 1 dish, but it has 2 LNBs. Does a backbone installation need to have 2 dish's?

Well I just thought about this and if the Dish is a large oval one with 2 LNBF's that is OK, I think it might be a "Triple Beam" dish that can hold 3 LNBF's.
Your MDU installers might do it different to the norm here in Ontario, where we use 2 x 75 or 90cm Dish's, 1 for each bird. Just also called a buddy who says, some installations in the GTA have a "Triple Beam" as well. |

FYI, here's the dish in question. I hooked my line into that splitter and I picked up 91 odd so it looks like all I'm missing is a downconverter.
Do you have any idea where I could get my hand on those outside of Bell? I've had a bad experience in the past with an installer and I try to avoid them unless absolutely necessary. Thanks http://i45.tinypic.com/2lj4775.jpg |

Yep, that is what the bell guys call a "Triple Beam".
Without the correct down-converter you will not get all the transponders, as the entire range from both birds are stacked onto the 1 cable feeding the suite. The down-converter is a proprietary device only available from Bell TV, even the manufacturers will not sell them to you, trust me I know lots of people that have tried. They do appear from time to time on an online auction site... |

Thank you for your help Pinza. Perhaps you can answer one more question. I got the boxes, and I see there is a VHF port on them. What is that used for? Is there a way to inject a 9242 TV2 VHF output on that wire somehow?

I am not 100% certain but I believe that if you hook that port to the Coax input of your TV, then tune to Channel 3, you will or should see the Lobby Camera System.
