Most people still don't know what one looks like in person. When i'm on holidays with my Kindle, most people think it's an IPAD.

Well at least two million people know what it looks like!

The fact that millions of people do know what it is amazes me. Think of how long it took for people to know about DVD or Blu-ray or PVR's. Not quite the same but even my 85 year old mother knows about the iPad.

Apple's relentless focus on actually showing the product in use in its oft-aired commercials and the millions of dollars of free advertising they've received shoots product awareness into the stratosphere.

Interesting situation. Last Saturday, Futureshop was completely sold out of ALL models, and the Montreal Apple store only had the 64 GB Wi-Fi model left. But yesterday, Futureshop had the model I wanted, the 32 GB Wi-Fi version. I didn't think to ask them what they had left in the other models, but apparently they did have a decent selection since the sales clerk didn't hesitate to say they did have iPads in stock.

If the stores selling the iPad manage to keep it consistently in stock as of now, does that mean the early sales rush is already over?

BTW, here's the trailer for the upcoming review.

Well by definition, the "early" sales rush is over pretty early.

I think Apple did the smart thing and delayed the launch outside of the U.S. in order to build the pipeline of product. I also imagine they have been working overtime in the last 10 weeks to increase production.

The result is demand and supply are converging.

In terms of media exposure, iPad is definitely right up there. A great many people who may not have seen it in person has seen it on TV at some point, I'm sure. Jake Humphrey (BBC Sport) was carrying one around during the BBC F1 Turkey pre-race coverage, and used it to show Mark Webber a video clip. That's just one example... I can't remember by memory, but I'm sure I've seen it on a couple of episodic tv shows in the past couple of weeks.

Lol. I have to give you credit for being relentlessly consistent.

Dude, size matters.

i have nothing that plays physical media in my house

well, I guess that's not 100% true. I have 1 Blu-ray rom, and 1 dvd rom on the fileserver for os install, live cd testing and disk ripping

seriously tho, I don't see how calling a big ipod a big ipod is remotely offensive

i love the heck out of my ipod touch. i just happen to like my ipods to fit in my pocket

I don't think calling an iPad a big iPod is offensive. It's just a superficial description of the device.

I have tons of apps on my iPhone and iPad. The size difference of the device makes the apps completely different. There are some apps like checking the weather I prefer to do on my iPhone and others like surfing the web I prefer to do on the iPad.

I like doing email on my iPhone as well even though the email program is a whole lot better on the iPad.

If I were an iPad, I'd be offended if they called me a big iPod.
After all, the iPod's is destined is to spend its life docked away playing music. My life as an iPad would involve a lot more interacting with and earning the respect of humans.
