Hi i have the Shaw Motorola DCT 3416 1
All my recordings are starting a min or 2 late which of course results in all the last couple of mins not being recorded. I don't want to have to spend 2 hours manually setting each recording to record longer. This problem started this weekend . I'm in Saskatoon. Anyone else having this problem or have a remedy for it ?. should i phone shaw a wait 2 hours for them? |

Is the clock actually incorrect or are some programmes simply running a couple of minutes past the hour, 1/2 hour the way that some of them do. Do the programmes begin recording a couple of minutes early too? Check the display time against a channel that displays the time (some news channels). The channels are usually pretty accurate. Or check the time with a time signal on your computer - link below.
http://time5.nrc.ca/webclock_e.shtml You could always e-mail Shaw if the time is incorrect, stating your location, other details.

I am not sure if it is a clock issue. I found that a few of my programs ends a bit too early where trailers of the next episode being cut off. However I have also noted some recordings starting during the intro (e.g. Simpson's intro) instead of before it.

My guess is this is not a clock issue.
As 57 suggested, check against a reputable time source. I think you'll find your set top box is accurate however If it is incorrect, then you need to contact Shaw so they can fix it for your area.

Thanks for all the replies, i guess i worded that wrong. I ment that on shaws ends or the broadcasters end. the times are starting wrong. I assume there is no remedy to this problem. other to manually set the programs to record longer. Am I correct in assuming there is no remedy?

IF the programmes are starting or stopping at odd times and the IPG has not compensated for those times, then you need to make any corrections.
Here's a thread starting in 2004 when networks first started this absurd practice. The thread may have been regarding Rogers and their IPG, but you catch the drift. http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=18207 You can also lobby your service provider for a correct IPG. We've tried that with Rogers, but it's fallen on deaf ears due to their use of TV Guide Canada which doesn't allow for accurate information (apparently only every 5 minutes instead of say 1-2 minutes)
