Just a guess here but now would be the perfect time for Bell to bring out the 9252 as Dish has discontinued the product in favor of the Whole Home DVR The Hopper. Thats more or less when Bell starts to introduce their "new" receivers.

lol. I said the exact same thing yesterday, while at Bell.....
I was just stared at. I agree with you though, now is the time, we would remain one step behind, as normal. Maybe Bell seriously think the 6400 is a good idea, which is the impression I get from them and that they do not need the 9252 now. They seem to like the idea of moving away from a PVR and let the customer buy the EHD. |

No, the people I saw had no comments on the Hopper, a couple did not know of its' existence.
They do seem to be very insular inside their own little cubicles. |

Do these people even keep update on new things lol.. Most people like to buy shiny new things.. Maybe they need come here lol. It's really sad they still pushing what 2005? Pvr technology? I know this sound bad but I can almost picture it. I see bunch Higher up bell guys/Co's Sitting around a table, on break drinking coffee, with an old popular science book from 2006 that nobody has bothered to throw out yet, and some old laptop from same year. While another guy going threw printed out stats on how much money they making off older 9241/42. lol Bell needs selling point. Like "Buy our new Bell Hopper whole home PVR System and trade your old Pvr in with a discount or some credit." Come on Bell We all love to see our new 9252/Hopper Pvr..

The thing is...Bell-TV's 9242 is still the best PVR in the Canadian market...so where is their motivation?

I see no chance of the Hopper being introduced in the next two years.
Perhaps they might introduce the 9252 (922) since Dish has discontinued it and it was always riddled with problems and most people hated it. That should be impetus for Bell to introduce it. As dm_4u says, the 9242 was and still is the best PVR in Canada by a country mile. So what does Bell do? They discontinue it and replace it with the ViP612. A Made in China piece of crap with many issues. But first they remove the OTA tuner to make it even more useless. You folks thinking Bell will introduce anything but discontinued, castrated, buggy receivers are dreaming. |

How do you figure the 9242 is the best hd pvr in canada? i've had one for year, i know its capabilities, it is a good unit, not the best...
What Telus, Bell and MTS have going on with Mediaroom, to me its the best, accessing my recordings from any HD box, that is what makes for a nice PVR experience...

When Rogers introduces a whole home PVR, Bell TV will have to follow suit, or try at least. It will certainly put the pressure on, just like Fibe TV pushed Rogers to finally deploy theirs.

i'm not sure about Telus or Bell, But MTS has 3 streams maximum at one time and only two of which can be HD. That hardly works if you have 4-5 HD TV's where people wanna watch their own live HDTV. With Bell Satellite's 9242 you could have 18 HD streams at once with OTA hooked up. |

So you're telling me that the 9242 (when hooked up to OTA signals) can allow you to watch 18 hd streams at once? Is that on 18 TVs? How do you hook up to more than 2 TV with the 9242? And being from Winnipeg, can you even find more than 3 HD OTA signals?

I think what he must mean is if you have 6 9242s you could have up to 18 HD streams at once. 6 receivers is the max you can have on an account, 2 Bell feeds and 1 OTA feed per receiver = 18 feeds. You obviously can't watch all 18 things at once.

Six 9242s would cost close to $3000. That's not an option with most people. I thought I was over the top when I had two 9200s. (OT, I now have two Shaw Direct 630s.) The 9242 was scrapped to save Bell money. The 9241 is cheaper to buy but rents for the same price as the 9242. Adding OTA guide support to the 9242 would have cost Bell money. The OTA tuner adds an extra point/cause of failure (due to OTA antenna static.) Supporting the second TV feature on the 9242 adds to installation costs. The 9252 poses similar issues and will not likely be rolled out for the same reasons. Case closed as far as Bell is concerned, despite what customer want.
If people really want whole home PVR, it can be done but with some added complexity in the way of HTPC hardware and software. That can be discussed in the HTPC forum.

Thanks JoeLouie, Thats what I figured he was getting at. With my shaw Gateway I can hook up 6 tvs and record 6 channels at once all with one Gateway. Unless the 9252 or any furture Bell product can do at least this, I will remain with Shaw.
