Default CHWI-TV (/A\ Windsor) license renewed by CTVgm for another year

I didn't see this posted anywhere, and figured it would actually be front page news HUGH would have posted. As per AM 800 CKLW website (which is also owned by CTVgm), /A\ Windsor has bought itself another year of service with the recent CRTC decision.

It's a bit of a breathing room for staff at "A-Windsor." The local television station's licence, which was set to expire in August, has been extended for one year. But, the "fee for carriage" issue is now before the federal court and C-T-V must decide whether to spend millions of dollars to convert "A-Windsor" to digital.

Hmmm... that's strange, I don't see it on the CRTC's Decisions page... I'll keep looking.

Just a guess, I wonder if this was done up more-so as to say CTVgm will be applying to the CRTC for another renewal of the license for another year so it doesn't shutdown in the summer.

That would explain why its not on the CRTC website...

I recall hearing that the CRTC recently allowed the broadcasters to consolidate all their licence renewals into one filing. Maybe that's the reason for the automatic extension.

I recall that being the SOP for CTV about 10 years ago. I think this has more to do with the threats to shut down local TV

Default CRTC unveils a new group-based television regulatory policy

Did a search of the CRTC site and found it.

http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2010/2010-167.htm

Administrative renewals

106. To allow the broadcasting industry to adapt to both the new group-based approach set out in this regulatory policy and the Commission's determinations resulting from the additional proceedings announced herein, the Commission will renew, for a one-year period ending on 31 August 2011, the broadcasting licences of all television licensees controlled by a designated group for which the licences expire 31 August 2010, under the same terms and conditions as those set out in the current licences, on an administrative basis. The Commission will be issuing administrative renewal decisions for these services prior to 31 August 2010.

Yep, I was thinking that the journalist simply meant the blanket CRTC decision of awhile back (in that link).

Well regardless I take it they probably told the CHWI-TV staff they all got another year of employment...

It would be nice if A Channel and CBC Windsor could get together and upgrade to digital and share the same more powerful CBC antenna.

The CBC in Windsor is more powerful but its VHF. I have trouble reliabily pulling it in versus /A\ which is on UHF and I can get without program all the time.

Which /A\ Channel transmitter? The flea power one on Victorial Park Place (60) or the main one north of Wheatley (16)? My parents live in Forest Glade and exclusively watch the Wheatley channel because they can barely receive the downtown one.

60 UHF at Vic Park. The Wheatley one has no blip here.
