Default DCT6416, Tuner 2 is missing...

Hey guys, I'd love to hear if anyone else has experienced this, or if there's any sort of solution that's out there, 'cause we're frustrated to say the least...

Our power went out this past weekend, and after resuming, our DCT was weird. Everything was fine on the one tuner, but...

The other tuner kept saying "One moment please. This channel should be available shortly." On every single channel. We couldn't view or record anything to say the least.

So Shaw reset the box over the phone. Still nothing. The technician came out today and did a cold boot wiping it. The interesting thing was as he was scrolling through the diagnostics, Tuner 1 had a wealth of information, and Tuner 2 was "n/a" in every single category. So he did a cold boot, the box redownloaded the software, was reactivated and still nothing.

If everyone's got an inkling as to what's giving us grief, I'd hugely appreciate it. Thanks...

Sounds like the unit will need to be replaced - more than likely the unit was hit with a power surge that messed up the splitter inside (I'm presuming the DCT6416 uses a splitter to feed both tuners, since only one cable wire plugs in).

Don't think there's much you can do otherwise.

This is a hardware issue. If your unit is out of warranty, it will cost you $75-$100 to get it fixed. That includes shipping.

Odd, exact same thing happened a few days ago to one of my boxes.
I was crossing my fingers that the service guy might just replace it when they come next Monday (it is out of warranty), but you guys are bursting my bubble...

Mine had the same problem around 6 months ago. I phoned Shaw to make an appt and the guy on the phone said it was out of warranty, so I was expecting to have to pay for a new box. But the tech just came in and swapped it out with a refurb and it has been good ever since. So you might get lucky as well sbermunk.

Thanks for the help guys. Still no luck here, and with our box not being under warranty, it's either a new box or fixing it.

If we go the fix route, do we go through Shaw, or try and find someone locally?

jeb: smegger2000 already said that he had a out of warranty box and Shaw replaced it with an refurb for free.

Shaw does not have facility to fix the box. All they can do is replace it. If it's out of warranty, it's crap shot. They may replace it or tall you to but new one.

I've had that on one STB that has a marginal coaxial connection... hard boot clears it up until the next time.

And come to think of it, I did have that once on a failed box but it was both tuners giving that result...

I notice in post #1 you say that the problem showed up after a power outage, but since then have you tried unplugging for 30 seconds and plugging back in? Not just powerdown, but unplugging. Cures many odd problems. I somehow remember my Motorola or Pace box one time forgetting that it was a dual tuner PVR. The guide looked like the original single tuner basic STB guide. Cured with a couple of unplugs, if I remember correctly.

Yeah, we unplugged it a number of times hoping it would clear the problem up. Nothin'...
