Padding is definitely sticking on my 8642 which has been very nice!

I just swaped a dead disk HD PVR and got an 8642. With the old box; when in 1080i the picture size could be controlled using the # button from normal to zoom etc. The 8642 can do this too but when on an SD channel using 1080i and in Normal size it auto zooms out the side bars. It distorts the picture and is total annoying!
Can this be controlled? In more setting the picture format is set to fixed In settings it is set to 1080i picture size normal Using the HDMI output TV is a Sony Bravia 52" LCD Thanks! |

sheepishSCOT: In the advanced setup wizard, make sure that only 1080i is enabled and make sure that 480i/p widescreen is NOT enabled (it's the latter that causes the stretching). It's usually good to do a reboot after running the wizard.

I am having the same problems with the 8642 HD box (freezing and muting for a few seconds) as some others have I am very frustrated. I replaced the box and that still that didn't help, I had technicians at my house ect.... and I still have the same problems. Rogers is telling me they will replace the box again but I know I will have the same problems.
Does anyone know if there is a solution to this problem? Thanks |

slk188, moti Have you checked your signal strength and S/N ratio when you have these issues? SA FAQ, post 196. Do you have the 160 or 500 GB HDD?

I have a 500 Gb. My HDHI does not work correctly. My S/N is 33 and my Video 79 and Audio is 78. I disconnected my telephone connection from my TV to increase my signal strenght. Do people have their HDHI working? Thanks

SAME here - mine has been doing this ever since I got it.
I am not sure if it is a firmware issue, or if the processor in these boxes is a cheap, under-powered paperweight - but it does NOT seem capable of doing more than 1 thing at a time. For example, if I am recording 1 program, (and tuned to an actual channel), while engaging the guide to scroll for things to record - it is VERY sluggish. If I am recording 2 programs and engage the guide it is so sluggish to be almost unuseable. Under those circumstances, I have also found that it will sometimes FREEZE entirely - where either the picture and audio are frozen, or just the picture. Please someone tell me that this is will be possible to be fixed via firmware - and not that the box itself is too cheap to handle the load - thus we have all bought lemons. |

I have had my 8642 for about a month now. It works perfectly. I often record one program and watch another. I do not notice any issues with speed or quality.

The issue is copying two programs at once. Thats when you see the effect.

I'll check, but I know that when I am recording two programs at once and watching a 3rd (recording), I have no issues whatsoever, which I found to be impressive.
I'll check on the guide part to see if it's slow when two programs are recording. |
