I have a pair of Panasonic DMR-EH55 DVD/HDD recorder that I use with my Rogers home cable. No Rogers box on those 2 TVs.
For the last few days I have noticed that the TV Guide Onscreen (TM) data is not updating. Previously there was always 8 days of data. I believe it is supposed to update at 7:31am each (or every eighth?) day. I have researched this online a bit. Basically the ATSC protocol has a hole where this info is stuffed. Many products (TVs and PVRs) are sold with the 'TV Guide' logo and this functionality but when I phoned Rogers they claimed never to have heard of it and not to support it! They also claim no one else has this problem. So now I have two expensive PVRs with TV Guides that contain no data. I can't believe I am the only one with this problem? Anyone out there with the same issue? Is Rogers blocking the Gemstar (they originated the TV Guide Onscreen system) data to force us to all use Roger's boxes? Not too doubleplusgood. This is very frustrating because this system has been used by countless TVs and PVRs for years and suddenly Rogers has never heard of it. These type of shenanigans will eventually cause customers to flee. Thanks for reading this and for any replies. Good luck! |

For cable, ATSC does not apply. TVGOS (aka Guide Plus+ Gold) data comes down in the VBI of an analog channel. As this channel is very low bitrate, it can take some time for your guide to populate.
Generally your device has to be in standby mode when the guide data is sent out to update its database. If your device loses power, it may lose all guide data that it had previously downloaded. It could be that Rogers is simply having issues with their TVGOS stream, don't assume that the person you spoke to on the phone knows what TVGOS is! If you have a set of rabbit ears, see if your device will pick up the data OTA -- I can't remember which channel in Ottawa carries it but my Sony LCD got data from one of 'em. |

I'm having the same issues. Tried everything but to no avail.
I did get a call from Rogers saying they are trying to get their customers to go digital and when I mentioned I had a PVR he wasn't impressed. I hope there will be a fix soon |

Two PVRs (analog). No TV Guide! Makes it hard to program!

Why would Rogers want to fix this problem? They do sell their own brand of PVR. I would contact Panasonic and see if they could offer some solution.

Here's the discussion thread on TVGOS, easily found by searching for that term. Check out the last couple of pages - lots of issues/problems.
