Default Recent Problems with Moto PVR and HD??

I have a Motorola 6416 PIII and have had a 1TB external drivae connected for quite a while now with no issues. A couple of nights ago ( Wed evening to be exact) the PVR started to have issues.

The unit was recording a show and we were watching another recorded show (Both in HD) when the recording started freezing. The PVR then became unresponsive and would "hang" for 15-20 sec.

Even when back to watching live TV the picture and PVR will freeze periodically. The problem only seems to be on the HD channels, as the SD channels are fine.

Recordings made after the problems started are unwatchable, as they will freeze and skip a ahead every minute or so. The older recording seem ok. I disconnected the external drive buit that did not solve anything, so I don't think it is a hard drive issue.

With the external drive connected, the PVR reads that it is 45% full, when disconnected it it as around 75%. I have tried to delete some programs to see if that would help (it didn't). It also takes a lot longer to delete programs from the PVR now then it previously did.

Shaw reset the PVR, but that did not help either. Any ideas?

Lightbulb

Unplug the power from everything for a minute then restart. Often works even when a cableco reset does not.
