I have a cottage just east of Butler, PA and the reception is still fine. I am not sure how south you are, but this far down it works fine on both transponders at this time.
I know that further south now it is impossible to get a signal (Phoenix, AZ). |

Inglewood do you mean "both satellites" not "both transponders"? There are lots of xpdrs on every satellite.
Why is it impossible for people in Arizona to get BEV? Were in California and we're still getting most of the xpdrs so they havent gone away yet and the footprint of 91 goes below AZ too. |

Yes...I meant both satellites. I'm getting all the channels (HD included) fine at my cottage.

adm222,
I am in Alberta and just checked my signal levels on 91. The 8 transponders you mentioned all have signals here of around 90. The others have signals mostly in the 60's with a few in the 50's or 70's. Does this mean that Nimiq 6 is up and starting to run? |

I have a cottage in Missouri and am using a single-LNB 3100 -- so all SD -- pointed to 91. and am experiencing the channel drop-off described in this thread. My signal strength is great, but the problem seems to be that many transponders are being shut down.
I' m on the edge of the 82 footprint. What are my options? dual-LNB? 82-only? or drop Bell for Shaw? sugestions, please. Thanks |

nelsona, looking at the Nimiq 6 coverage map provided by Telesat, Missouri is no longer within the contour of the satellite. So what are your options? Its not a dual-LNB, that won't do anything. 82-only perhaps, based on post #4 and the Nimiq 4 contour you should be able to get a signal with a larger satellite there. You can also try a larger satellite (at least 30 inches, if not larger) to get a signal on Nimiq 6. The larger the better. Otherwise, yes, you will need to drop Bell for Shaw.

Nelsona, be advised that Shaw also plans on reducing their footpront when the two existing satellites are replaced.
Their 3rd satellite (Anik G1) going up later this year will have a reduced footprint, much like Bell's. |

everything ive read about G1 is that it will have new channels (local stations and HD?) not old ones so Shaw customers should be okay. Also it got delayed to Dec.

Thanks alebowgm and 46FD04,
To switch to 82 is it simply a matter of reconfiguring my reciever and pointing the (larger) dish, or is a hardware upgrade needed? And will "82-only" give me access to all the chaneels I had? In other words, is there a reason that single-lnb's are configured to 92 in the first place, or was it always optional. |

If memory serves, some of the very early receivers could not get 82w, but its unlikely you have a Model 1000 or 3000 receiver since they are so legacy and have pretty much been phased out so you should be fine.
To switch to 82w, yes, all you need to do is re-point your dish to that orbital location. But note, 82w only has HD content. So make sure you have an HD capable receiver or you won't get any signal. Also, by moving your dish from 91w to 82w, any SD programming you view will be gone since it is only available at 91w. On the flip side, now you will have everything in HD. As for any changes you may have to make on the receiver, you may need to do a check-switch. Single LNBs as you put it (and your using the phrase wrong, Single LNB would be one output for one orbital location, versus a dual has two outputs for one orbital location) are often pointed at 91w because it has all of the SD content, which is where the bulk of the programming is. To get ALL available programming from Bell, you need to be pointed at both 82w and 91w and then use a switch to combine the signals. Honestly, my gut says that since you are in Missouri, you are going to need a larger dish or switch providers.

I have this dish since 2002, so it is NOT dual at all - it points only to 91w, and since I do not have any HD programming, I hear you that my current system is about dead.
Are the signals from 91w getting weaker, have they been "re-footprinted" or are some/all xponders being turned off one-by-one as N6 becomes fully operational. |

Are you guys sure about the New ANk sats having a reduced Footprint? From my understand Shaw also use the ANK sats for Companies Truck Fleet tracking throughout Canada & the US?
