I have a trailer with a dish attached so we can watch Expressvu while travelling in US ad Canada. I want to install a HD dish now but I cannot seem to get a HD signal when in Florida. (I get the normal signal)

Anyone have any experience with this challenge?

There is no 82 signal in Florida so you will never get HD Channels. You will not get SD after Bell launch the new Satellite next year.

I recently installed an HD dish in North West Connecticut. After several attempts to align the dish myself I finally gave up and paid some local Dishnet guys to do it. When I was trying myself I had 99% signal strength for 91 but could not locate 82. They were able to locate both but my signal strength is very low. Low 70's for 82 and low 60's for 91. They said that was the best they could do. I do not get all transponders and sometimes at night I lose my signal all together. Considering I had 99% for 91, should I not be able to do better that what I have. I have an unobstructed view of the satellites. Thanks

You may have been showing a high signal strength for Galaxy 17 at 91 degrees (if you were using a dual polarization LNB).

The DishNet installers have had to "give up" some of your 91W (Nimiq 1 and 2) to get 82W for HD (Nimiq 4), because technically 82 which carries the HD channels should not be visible from the US. If you look at the footprints of Nimiq 1 and Nimiq 2, you can see why it is much stronger than Nimiq 4. Your best bet would be to either go to a larger dish, a 2 dish setup, or be happy with what the installers have been able to do for you.

You could try two separate dishes. One for 91 and one for 82.

I would suggest using the dish you have now for 91 and then get a 24" or larger for 82.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't realize I was on the fringe of coverage for the 82 satellite. Would using an 18x24 elliptical dish help me at all or should I just go to 2 seperate Bell dishes?

The fact that you're on the fringe of 82W, and that there are actually "3" satellite positions, 2 @91W 1 @82W, tweaking is going to be touchy as you already know and have paid for.

How is the reception, has there been any weather related issues, such as rain fade? If you go through the Transponders, how much do they vary by?

My suggestion is leave the current dish setup, and if you have to because of reception issues, setup a second larger dish to experiment with.

I have had a Bell 5100 receiver in the People's Republic of Illinois (where our governors make our licence plates) for about 10 years now. About a 2.5 hour drive SW of Chicago. Have not been having any problems, other than the ever increasing rates. That is until earlier today I noticed a number of channels have been getting the dreaded Error Your Satellite signal is temporarily inavilable... message. I rarely get this since I am using a 1 meter dish aimed at 91- only the worst rain has been causing this to happen in the past.

Did a check and I am now currently getting no signal on 8 transponders: 3, 5, 9, 11, 17, 18, 27 & 28. The rest are either at 80 or 100, it used to be I ahd two groups of them one at 80 one at 100. Having several of thesse moved from one of the acceptable groups to the 0 group is not a good thing. If they were all either even or odd I could chalk this up to an equipment problem on my end, but since the two polarities are mixed I am at a loss to figure out what the problem is. Any one have any ideas on this one.

Found this site while searching online for an answer. I used to post on anoher site, but a couple years back they changed the software to a version my computer does not like and when I went looking there today noticed that they had very few posts by anyone this year.

I have a smaller dish pointed at 82 that gets a marginal signal and nothing has happened to that.

Adm22 did you read the thread about NIMIQ6? Probably you are too far south to get BEV 91 anymore. You can look at the footprint map on the Telesat site. Altho I thought it was the same footprint as 82 but maybe if youre right on the edge you'll get one but not the other

Just read that on your advise. I am guessing that soon the rest of the channels will disappear? I am about 150 miles SW of the line- only saw one most of these maps have the signal drop off gradually over a distance.

I have not had the receiver hooked up to 82 dish in a long time- the reception was marginal and there was nothing there I was paying for of any real interest. Any idea if a 7.5 foot dish get the job done?
