Sadly, its not faster for me. I just timed it. Two minutes and 40 seconds from the time I launch the icon to the time I can watch tv.

I'll try resetting everything later today and if its not improved. I will call tech support.

It's inconsistent. Sometimes it loads very quickly and sometimes it can take 2 or 3 minutes.

Default Multi-View App and Xbox

The new Multi-View app seems pretty cool, but when I try to run it on the Xbox it says it does not yet work on the Xbox. Does anyone know if they (MS) are working on it? It would be nice to have.

Do other Mediaroom apps work on Xbox - like Facebook?

If you're asking "does the Xbox 360 have a Facebook app" then the answer is yes.

The apps that work on the xbox are in colour, the others are greyed out. Facebook, Twitter, the disk space tool and the Galaxy all work. Multiview, weather and Tumblebooks do not.

- You do require Xbox gold but there's no longer an additional Telus charge nor was there any setup charge and a tech visit wasn't necessary. The first time you load the Optik app on the Xbox you'll be prompted for an activation code. Call Telus, get the code, enter it and you're set.

- You can't use the Telus app with the integrated Xbox WiFi or the Xbox wireless adapter. When you try to load the Telus app you'll receive a message saying only wired connections are supported. A third party access point like the 'Linksys Universal Media Connector' would likely work.

- Your main Telus box has to be connected via the Ethernet port. If it's hooked up using coax the Xbox won't be able to connect to it.

- Loading the app does take a minute or so. Long enough to be a little frustrating. Once the app is loaded the menus respond much faster than with the Telus box. Guide paging and menu selection is pretty much instant. The Xbox itself takes 30 seconds or so to boot so now you're looking a a couple minutes to turn on your TV.

- The app looks just like you'd see on the regular Telus box and it appears to have identical functionality which makes sense as Microsoft makes the software used on the Telus boxes.

- I feel like the colour is better than I experienced with the Telus box. Richer colours and deeper blacks. Maybe it's my imagination but there's definitely no loss of quality.

- The Kinect integration is pretty cool. It may be a bit of a novelty feature but I can see myself using it to pause or mute the TV. I find the Xbox controller very intuitive. Easier to use than a regular remote. Paging the guide with the trigger buttons is nice.

- The video on demand features are much, much faster than with the regular Telus box. Almost instant actually.

If I had more TVs to hook up I think I'd buy an Xbox rather than another Telus box. It's crazy how much faster it is. I just wish the initial load time was a bit faster.
Hey marks. I am about to setup an Xbox/Kinect on my system and I found your post very helpful. Thanks very much.

I have the Xbox/Kinect set up with Optik TV now. To a large extent, the voice control works very well. However, Microsoft & Telus seem to have stopped short of a fully functional implementation. There doesn't seem to be any way of bringing up the channels guide with voice control while watching live TV. You need to use a remote button to do that, and also to navigate the guide once it is displayed. Also, you cannot exit Optik TV using voice control, or access the PVR recordings using voice control.

This may not seem like a big deal, but for someone who has difficulty using a remote control, it is a very frustrating problem. If anyone has any tips or tricks for these functions using voice control on an Xbox/Kinect/Optik setup, please share them.

I'm really enjoying the Xbox / Optik integration. I'm using a beta release of the new Xbox software and maybe it's in my head but if anything it seems like everything is even snappier than before. It just responds so fast.

I don't use the Kinnect feature that much but it's convenient for pausing.

I just wish it didn't take so long to load up initially. I wish I could click 'Optik TV' and it'd be right there. Sometimes it's relatively quick and sometimes it takes 2 or 3 minutes.

Yeah I like the Xbox/optik tv option as well. However I had it set up at my main tv. Soon as Microsoft decided to get rid of the auto startup to optik tv option it has been to slow for me to boot up. Especially for the wife. I thought with the new Xbox beta it would of addressed this issue. What I did for a short time was to move the optik tv app to the my pins section. So when the Xbox boots up its only two button presses to launch it. I still think they need to make the boot up time quicker. Ranging from 3 seconds (once u launch app) to 3 mins is unacceptable. On top of that, not a huge deal breaker, but they should be updating the channel logos in the guide faster.

So I have been on and off trying to see if there is anything I could do to improve the delay that it takes to start the Optik App. Telus sent out a tech but he couldn't find anything. One thing I discovered is that if I take the XBOX and plug it directly into the Actiontec, with nothing in between, it loads instantly. So I figured--ok it must be the switch/cabling. But, when I put it back in the living room, behind the second switch, it also works instantly...for a while and then starts to get slower and slower (up to 5 mins). Repeating the above process makes fixes the problem.

All my other devices apps work great on the same network--absolutely no problems with streaming 1080p etc....any thoughts?

I'd say try this.
1) unplug any 2nd hubs/switches you have in your setup
2) unplug everything from telus router except 1 computer
3) Reset to factory settings
4) unplug the power, wait 10 sec plug it back in, let get full connection
5) now plug everything else in,
6) now plug in your extra hub/switch and any other devices

See if that helps.. Good lucky.

you could also try putting 360 in DMZ zone on telus router (If you can) if you cant you have another option, Read my other post for info.

You could also try another option but telus will not official support it..

Get yourself a Telus ALU modem and your own router..
Any router should do. Linksys/DLink/any other Wifi and extra
10/100/1000 Hub.

Telus ALU modem to your router or buy your own new router.. I just picked up new Linksys here in Calgary E3200 10/100/1000 with USB port/ 5ghz Wifi.
(but you need something that supports Wireless N 5ghz which I just found out lol)
( I found out my new laptop only suports 2.4 ghz N mode lol doh)

Ports:
1- Pvr 430
2- 330
3- computer/console/etc
4- To in line on hub

Hub
1-Console/or comp/TV box (330 etc)
2-Console/or comp/TV
3-Console/or comp/TV
4-Console/or comp/TV
5-Console/or comp/TV

I ran almost 6+ months with just Telus ALU modem, my old Linksys Wrt160n router with 2 Telus optik box (430/330) before I start have issues..
The problem was never full found, but it all seem get worst back last year after really bad snow storm..

You could try this setup. Telus will not official support it but you can do it.
You may have to put the 430 in your router in DMZ zone so can always be accessed by Telus, but I know it ran fine for month even when I didn't have in DMZ zone

Question Xbox 360 for limited mobility

I am considering switching from Shaw to Telus Optik TV.

I find it odd that with today's technology I have to have a technician come to my house to hard wire the STBs that I want to have in my house. I would like to have some portability viewing live and recorded content, and am thinking that the Xbox option might be a (small) step in that direction.

With the Xbox option, I'm assuming I can connect to the PVR to watch live and recorded content anywhere in my house that has access to my home network. So I could place the Xbox in the den and connect it to my monitor with HDMI to watch content, or plug it into a TV in another room, as long as I have access to Ethernet.

Is anyone using this feature in this manner, giving you limited portability for accessing recorded content on the PVR? I would also be interested in knowing if anyone has done this over wireless.

I hope one day the mobile apps (iPad, iPhone, Android etc) will support access to your recorded content from the PVR. I could easily imagine wanting to watch recorded content outside on the deck in nice weather for example.

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

Steve Smith

Bcstevo, yes you can use your Xbox in any room with ethernet connected to the same network as the pvr. Optik tv will not work on Xbox with wifi. A notification will come up stating that if you are in wifi mode. Also a good subscription is now required to use optik on Xbox. Not sure if telus still gives you a 60 dollar Xbox credit on your account as a one time deal to offset one year of Xbox live. Also note the $50 setup fee that telus charges to use Xbox includes a ethernet over coax adapter. So if you have cable outlet in one room
And no ethernet wire you can use the adapter to hook the Xbox up to the network.
