Default Tuner Card

Do any tuner cards out there work with shaw's HD channels? pchdtv.com for example?

I'll most likely run it on linux

No, the channels are all encrypted and you need a STB from Shaw. See the following FAQ.

As for an HTPC, you can use firewire (with difficulty) or the Hauppauge HD PVR. See the links in the following FAQ on Recording HD:
