I apologize if this issue was covered in an earlier thread. I'm new to this forum and may have missed a relevant post when I searched for similar problems.
Most times I press a button on the remote, my 9242 behaves as if I pushed the button twice. This makes navigating menus and pausing playback challenging, and entering 4-digit lock codes virtually impossible. And it doesn't happen every time, just most of the time. After rebooting the PVR twice and checking the batteries in the remote, I called Bell tech support was lead me to believe that my IR remote #1 was flaky and needed serious cleaning or replacement. After the call, I cleaned it thoroughly and the double-entry problem persisted. It was at this time that I dusted off my manual and unused UHF remote #2. The manual says that I can use it in single mode, but for some reason (I don't completely understand) it will only function when the PVR is in dual mode. Google directed me to this forum where I discovered that I could change my #2 remote to behave like the IR remote #1 by flipping the switch (reversing the blue tab) at the base of the remote. Voila. Following the programing script in the manual, I linked it to the PVR and it works in single mode. (However, this only works by taking over the IR link assigned to remote #1.) However, the double entry problem persists, which indicates that it's not a remote problem, but a PVR problem. Doh! Q1: Has anyone experienced a similar "double entry" problem? What fixes led to a satisfactory solution? Q2: Has anyone else had issues both remotes in single mode? Is there a setting to enable the UHF remote #2 to operate when in single mode? |

Do you have an LCD TV? Check out the following post on IR interference. There are several suggestions there.

Thanks for the tip. I do have an LCD TV, but I don't think it's relevant to my control issues. I got the TV and HD-PVR several months ago (July 2008), but the "double entry" issue only appeared in the last two days.

Try turning the TV off and see if the front of the PVR shows double entries. Did you add any CFL bulbs or change anything else, like using a different TV input, moving the PVR, etc - all the items discussed in the link..

You can set the uhf remote to control TV1.
We have 2 remotes on the same TV, saves us tossing it across the room.

Bell appear to have just rolled out some new software to the Dual Tuner HD PVR's, well some of them anyway, my 9200 has been funky since 3pm yesterday. |

ISSUE RESOLVED - the interference came from my Wii sensor bar
Thanks everyone for your assistance, especially 57. I owe you an apology. It was an environmental problem. My toddler moved my Wii sensor bar so that it was angled slightly towards my PVR. Once it was re-alligned, the double-click issue disappeared. Argh!! I can't believe how many hours I spent trying to trouble-shoot this issue myself, with Bell and on this forum. All because of the alignment of a stupid piece of plastic, just slightly bigger than a pen. I also figured out how to use Remote 2 in UHF mode with my PVR in single mode. It required System Settings / Shared View / Enable. (The default is disabled.) When this setting is disabled, the PVR doesn't "listen" to the UHF remote when the PVR is in single mode. |

Thanks for the feedback. I'll add a Wii bar to the IR interference thread.

I don't have a wii but am having the same issue and my harmony remote does the same thing so its definitely some setting within the 9242. I do have a toddler though and he was messing around with the remote....

I've bell 9242 remote would double click, used my remote from my Onkyo sr875 and same issue. So determined it was not a remote problem, found you're thread and tried many of the suggestions. I've a sony bravia 52" W4100. Turns out it is IR interference issue w/ the LCD's backlight. In my case the solution was to turn off the auto ambient light feature which basically adjust your backlight to your rooms light's intensity and my problem was solved. Thanks for all the tips saved me some headaches as I've had a boat load of problems w/ my pvr and also ps3 recently. Had replaced bell 6100 twice pvr9242 twice and had the red blinking light of death on the ps3 which I fixed. thanks everyone for your suggestions.

If you got the V184 update, don't think your issue is solved. My wife is fighting them right now; they keep saying it's our receiver, when it only started after the new firmware. They can't seem to grasp that the receiver will continue to misbehave even if you take the batteries out of the remote. Both remotes can set off the repeat-last-action-over-and-over phase, and nothing really can stop it. It will just stop by itself and start again whenever you try to use the remote(s) to make the receiver function.

Double Hit & phantom remote inputs. I live miles from nearest neighbour so that rules out external UHF remotes, but to be sure I changed remote address too. Happens once a day, since update, a hard reboot solves issues till next day. IMHO it is updated related.

Hello,
My first post but I've been reading this forum / website for a while now. I am having the same problem with my 9242. I also thought it was one of the remotes but quickly eliminated that by removing all the batteries and noticed the "repeat last command problem" still occurred. I will try calling Bell tomorrow to see how to fix this. This seems like it might be a firmware problem. Mike |

Use the device codes scan to find another code to control your television. There are codes that only power on/off and control volume levels, and there are codes that do that and everything else. There are codes that also interfere with your receiver.
