Sigh. I've just moved over from Bell and it's been a PAINFULLY difficult transition with the Rogers guide. You guys have no idea. When I'm told "Yeah, Rogers has a Search feature" I just shake my head and weep for this lost feature. This new "add-on" does not help in the least. I had hoped that at a minimum, I could set MY choice of channels and not what Rogers thinks I want to watch. Alas, I was (not surprisingly) disappointed.

It's going to be a looooong two years.

Thumbs down

What's disappointing is that the features that COULD have been cool aren't. For instance the ability to watch the six different sports channels at once and select from the screen. Great idea. But why can't I put MY OWN sports channels on it. It would be great if I could put Setanta, Fox, Gol, on that. Even the six news channels they selected are kinda lame.

Oh well.

The ability to reboot at the flick of a switch can come in handy though, I'll give
em that. And the ability to see what's on Free Preview.

Default So Bad

Wow, I was moderately excited when I saw the new slick design but did a 180 when the EPG was still the same 1980s look and feel and the really annoying double guide click.

I was so annoyed that I came to DigitalHome to see if others were as frustrated as me. Glad to see the hatred is pretty unanimous. Did Rogers ever blow this one

Why not give us features we want (Search, Better look and feel, channel favourite grouping)

Mind boggling

Default Rogers quick start guide is useless

Just got mine today in oshawa.

What a useless feature. It adds another step that isnt needed. Much like the auto turn off at 1:10am that you cant disable.

I will complain anyway tomorrow but since it may be a while or never for rogers to change things I made a workaround.

You need a harmony or equivalant remote to do this.

I created a sequence in the harmony software and called it "doubleguide"

Basically it hits guide twice (with an "A" in the middle to slow it down, two guides in the row are too fast for my SA 8300HD box), then assign it to the guide button.

Hope this helps someone other than me, and rogers puts a end to this "feature" soon!

Cheers,

Guide+A+Guide sequence in your harmony will take care of it

I just used Guide + Guide + Guide

3 Guides made it work!

Guide + Guide + Guide will work but if you hit guide to exit 'the guide' it you will go to the quick start menu

Yeah, i found that out the accidently lol. I''ll reprogram it later with the A in the middle as that seems like the best. It should be an issue since i hit exit to leave the channel guide/info!

Actually, I hadn't noticed that until you mentioned it, so yeah, now I don't need to get off the couch if I want to reboot the PVR. Maybe it's not so bad after all...

In all seriousness though, that is a handy feature, however the intrusion of the implementation does far overshadow it, unfortunately...

Showed it to my wife tonight since she'll need to know to press guide twice. I also showed her the other (useless) stuff without saying anything. She said:

That's just stupid!
Sums it up completely. Rogers, you messed up big time with this one.

Just got it today (Downtown Toronto).

HATE IT

Not only does pressing guide twice seem extremely idiotic. But it's like you have to time pressing it twice just right.

Press (pause) press. It's driving me crazy.

Reminds me how much I hate scrolling through the channels in the guide with the slight delay.

I would have been happy if rogers just gave me the ability to not show channels I don't get in the guide.

I was up late watching a PVR episode of CSI when (at 4am) the box rebooted and I just knew it would be the dreaded "Quick Start Guide".

Being on basic cable, many of the "features" of this already mostly useless monstrosity are not even available.

This thing reminds me of web surfing years ago, before popup blockers, when a undesired window would pop up and cover your main browser window. Closing it would often popup another...and so on.

Two thumbs pointed down...and then put in my eyes.

Not sure whether this will do any good, but I suggest that everyone register your feelings on this thread at the Rogers support forums.

http://forums.rogershelp.com/pun/vie...pid=3134#p3134

I've posted there, emailed Rogers, talked to customer support, and tweeted to @RogersKeith (their social media support person).

With regards to customizing a Harmony remote, the same button sequence won't necessarily work with everyone if you've made changes to the device's default delay timings (the inter-key delay, specifically). I didn't really want to change this setting on my remote, so I ended up changing the inter-device delay, and in between the two guide commands, added a TV command which I knew would be ignored.

And I agree with daveharr i.e. any way you can use to voice your displeasure about this new feature is worth doing

I will take one positive out of this whole thing. Just think if Rogers puts their minds to actually fixing the IPG how much better it might look.

Not only did they screw up the implementation by using the Guide button instead of some other dedicated button, but they decided to work on the wrong thing first. Had they fixed the guide first I doubt anyone would be complaining about the quick start menu.
