Yes, after choosing the QSG and going round and round in circles a few times, I did see where one can press "A" to re-order the sequence. I guess Rogers can't be accused of hiding the option if you search for it. Also to their credit, when I choose to see 6 news screens at once, they're all in English, unlike when they had 6 Winter Olympics choices, at least half of them French and NBC conspicuously absent.

However, once you're in the QSG loop, there's no way of returning to the channel you were originally watching, either by pressing Guide or Exit; you have to press the channel number, if you remember it, or go to the IPG and find it.

In my opinion, the QSG is useless to customers who know what they want to watch. It's a diversion for someone killing time in a hotel room in a strange city, and of course, a vehicle for advertising.

With a litlte tweaking, I could see the static banners ad being expanded into a WebTV (remember that from the 1990's?!) form of interactive advertising.

Like how you see a Rogers "Want to see CTV on-demand? Hit the 'A' button now." banner ad (or Treehouse on-demand), you could do the same w/ an ADT or Bose or Kelsey's ad so you hit the 'A', 'B', 'C' (or 'D', where available) button and get a simplified (Scientific Atlanta GUI-like) "website". So if it were Harvey's Mushroom Melt ad, you can navigate to see a full page "website"/ad and gain various in-depth information through menus and sub-menus on the banner ad you see, if you so choose so to.

If they could ad Adobe flash video, maybe all the more better.

Now I'm thinking from a Rogers/advertisers view point here. It could open up a Pandora's box where you see static banner ads that can do the same with in the Rogers-On-Demand menus and.... *GASP!* on the actual programming guide!

The switch back to the old guide was mentioned on CBC news tonight. They talked about how so many customers hated the new guide and also provided instructions on switching modes.

interesting link found via google

"They listened". Yeah right. If they listened to their customers we would have an updated cable box and/or guide by now to compete with the Satellite Companies and even the cable companies in the US that are way ahead of them.

Quote from the link above regarding the QSG

“We thought you’d love it. And while many do, some of you told us you didn’t like having to press “guide” twice to get to TV listings. We appreciate your feedback; we listened and we acted.”

Interesting spin from Rogers.

Notice how it took 43 comments before "Rogers_Richard" eventually divulged that you could press Exit to return to your program and avoid the QSG completely. He could have said that in the beginning if he really wanted to, but didn't.

It scares me to think what Rogers considers New Improvements and innovative ideas, or as "Rogers_Richards" puts is "Stay tuned later this year for some technology updates and enhancements to the interactive Programming Guide." Uh oh, everyone be on high alert lol

Default QSG has disappeared

After getting up this morning, I noticed my box started on Channel 1.
Pressed the guide button and the guide showed up. Pressed the guide button again and it disappeared.
Has the QSG taken a holiday down south? Spring break?

Must be just a glitch in your area as here in T.O. I get the Channel Guide first and then the QSG (as per my settings).

I can't see Rogers ever relinquishing anything that gives them a chance to earn money through advertising.

I vote get rid of it! It's getting like the movie theater. Pay 10.00 bucks to sit and watch advertising. This is nothing more than a way to make a few bucks.

I wonder if the advertisers on the QSG know that people have learned how to avoid viewing it. Maybe if they knew, they might take their advertising elsewhere.

I would imagine Rogers had an obligation to tell the advertisers in what manner customers were viewing the ads themselves. Ad pricing is usually tied to the number of potential viewers. Less viewers should mean a lower cost of the ad space being sold.

Rest assured that there will always be enough people out there looking at ads even if you or I know how to avoid them or have learned to ignore the ones we can't.

Hello! Does anyone else have problems with DVD recorders listings (a.k.a. TV Guide) function under this new nonsense? If so, any idea how to bypass/defeat it? BTW, I have a Sony RDR-HX715...

Thanx in advance for any enlightenment...

This should have nothing to do with the functioning of TVGOS. Please search for that term on this forum as there have been issues due to the digital changeover and due to problems with some channels (like Ottawa) which are covered in some recent TVGOS threads.
