Default Kindle iPhone App now available in Canada

Amazon this week announced that its Kindle for iPhone app is now available in Canada through the iTunes Canada app store. The app has been available in the U.S. since early this year.

The free app lets iPhone and iPod touch owners read Kindle books that have been purchased from their Mac, PC or iPhone.

I downloaded and installed yesterday.

Last night, I logged in, using my Amazon.ca account without an problem and cruised around. I found Dickens Christmas Carol for free and downloaded it in seconds.

Then I read for awhile.

Its not a kindle but its neat knowing that if I buy a book, it will work with any Kindle that I buy in the future.

So you can get free content for free? Instead of paying the $1.99 delivery charge to your kindle?

It said Free and I was never prompted that it would cost anything. I'm not up on my Kindle information but I thought the $1.99 was only if you try to download to a U.S. Version Kindle in Canada and did not apply to a Canadian Kindle.

My understanding on the pricing was that it was $11.99 to buy a typical book to CDN kindle; if I was buying a book to deliver to my USA Kindle while I'm in Canada, then, in addition to the regular $9.99, I'd pay an additional $1.99 (for Whispernet delivery).

I did have the option, though, of downloading the content to my computer, then drag/drop onto the Kindle (connected by USB to my computer).
