TMN launches MExcess and MFun! in High Definition - Canadian TV, Computing and Home Theatre Forums

Astral Media’s The Movie Network (TMN) today announced the launch of two additional high-definition channels – MExcess HD and MFun!

For an updated list of providers see post #2 which will be updated as more providers come on board.

Providers carrying the channels

Available Dec 2nd

Rogers - channels 554 and 555
Cogeco Cable - channels 673 and 674

Available Dec 9th

Bell TV - Channels 1253 and 1254

Eastlink is expected to get in following weeks but no date yet.

No word on Videotron or Shaw in Ontario

I didn't think TMN was carried in Western Canada aka Shaw country?

TMN isn't available in Western Canada, however, Shaw does own cable in Northern Ontario which can receive TMN.

Don't forget Shaw Direct. I just assumed Shaw Direct was not going to add these channels. They still don't have Mpix HD. I'm assuming that if Astral ever gets around to launching Family in HD, Shaw Direct/Shaw Cable wont add that either because they still don't have Playhouse Disney.

Guess this answers my question as to why the cost of the Movie package increases by $2 in January on Bell TV. So the value of each signal is a $1 per month? Nice price if you can get it!

Cool to have 2 more hd channels, but to be honest I would rather to option to save $2 and not get them. Reason being is that all these movies are on TMN1 and TMN2 and HBO1 and HBO2 anyways, so if you have a pvr they are not all that useful. I look over the new movies each month and then set timers for the ones I want. Whether they are on TMN1 or Exess, it dosent matter to me.

Does anyone know if they are 24/7 HD?

They are 24/7 HD and apparently are now "simulcast" (at the same time) as the SD channels (TMN, HBO1, MXs, MFun) It used to be that the SD and HD schedules sometimes varied from each other.

In moderately related news, I noticed last night that Movie Central is offering MXSHD and MFNHD starting on December 9; no description for those, but I assume they're HD versions of some of the SD "premium" movie channels.

MXS = Mexcess and MFN = Mfun, I'm confused as to how those could be Movie Central channels, since they're not Movie Central channel names?
