I bought a used receiver and took a basic package at Videotron. I just find out that I have few channels more than my package. How could this be possible? Is it because of previous owner’s package or something else could be the reason ?
Thank you |

Did you activate the STB on your account? If not, then the STB may still be activated by the previous owner, which could cause issues for him or for you - for example with PPV, etc.
If you purchased it, make sure you activate it onto your account. Relevant thread (valid for Videotron): http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=64632 Useful thread for those new to the forum: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=57741

since when it is active?
if its today, then the STB is in amorce mode, until the update is done and the illico receive its service profil

I did not activate it on my account yet. I’ve been told (by Videotron) that I cannot take immediately a basic digital package. They had to put me on classic cable for one day. Tomorrow I’m supposed to call them and ask for transfer to digital basic cable.
It’s kind of complicated think but it’s not my invention STB was used by previous owner for sure. I connected it today for first time to my cable, so I don’t know if that could be considerate as amorce mode. Thanks |

Sounds like the previous owner didn't deactivate the STB when he sold it to you (he should have). All should be OK once you activate, assuming the previous owner is in good standing with Videotron. If he's not, you could be in possession of a doorstop.

Also when my SA8300HD was first connected 4 years ago, for the first month I had many channels available for free to help me decide which channels I would choose for my Custom 20 package. I imagine that the content provider of a channel under promotion (like Astral Media) authorizes Videotron to occasionally give you a channel for free with the hope that you will re-program your package to swap in an Astral channel while you swap out a channel belonging to a competitor to Astral. Astral will then pick up a credit.
