Default Someone stole my HD Dish!!!!! arrrgghhhh!

Very pissed, live in a good neighbourhood, no problems in 4+years.

I have a 9200 Receiver, arm is still there, they snipped the three wires and took off dish.

Unbelievable!!!

Anyone ever had this happen. The dish can be reached by someone who is tall as mounted on the side of the garage, but still!

Kicker is Bell won't do anything. $300 plus for dish and rest of hardware. I feel they should be responsible as they recommended spot for installation.

Can someone please explain what the exact hardware I need is. A family member can install, but just need to know what to buy and where as I don't want to pay Bell that much.

There must be aftermarket stuff, people are stealing Bell's signal all the time.

Please help!!!!!!!!!

EDIT - Is this what I need? Is this trusthworthy?

you can get your dish for cheaper...look on your local Kijiji sales. People sell them for about 25 bucks....don't pay more than that.

Also might want to install it a little higher up on your house to prevent thefts.

There is hardly any value on those things...but people these days will steal anything they can get their hands on.

If they are selling the dish, LNBs and SW44 for $92, that's a good price. If you don't need the SW44, the dish and LNBs could be purchased cheaper.

Thanks for the help guys, still getting over the shock of it being stolen, lol.

I'm assuming I need the sw44 as the whole dish is gone and I believe they mount that on the back of dish? He stole it because of that I'm sure.

Is it possible to re-install SW44 in my garage and just put dish back up and run wires through the wall? I don't think anyone would just steal a dish OR like mentioned below re-install higher.

The SW44 can be mounted inside. It needs 4 RG6 cables from the LNBs to the inputs. Mine is in the basement but the garage should be Ok as well.

Installation of the SW44 is well covered in a number of sticky threads. Please read/use those threads for more information.
Thanks

I often worry about someone either damaging or stealing my dish too, since it's mounted toward the front of the house, and somewhat accessible from the ground. However, my SW44 is installed inside, so they won't get much other than frustrating me. I do have a spare dish and LNBF (x2) though.

You're joking right? If someone breaks into your house and steals your Bell receiver are they responsible for that too?

Is the lawn mower company responsible for replacing a stolen lawn mower because they recommend you store it in your garage?

Hugh, they Bell installer mounted my dish 6 feet above the ground, with the switch right on the back and easily visible. He could have installed higher on wall or on roof.

Common sense on the installers part should be to install switch inside where easy access for someone to steal or damage switch as it's the most sought after part.

In regards to Bell, ya, they want over $425 with installation. Installation and equipment which is given free to new customers, but if your loyal, you don't deserve anything? I could cancel for small fee, go with rogers for 6+ months and then come back as a new customer and having everything for free.

So when they recommended that location, why didn't you say, "hey common sense tells me that it could be stolen there, please place it higher on my building?"

Where was your common sense? It's your house, your neighbourhood. You have to take responsibility for your home.

if your car gets stolen from the driveway, are you going to expect the car company to replace your car because they didn't recommend you park in your garage.

I don't understand why the dish was installed so low. Mine is installed high up on the chimney but why the installer chose that spot and not lower I don't know but it's certainly out of the way. What happened to sixer was unfortunate but one can learn from other's misfortunes. Would Dishcare have covered this loss?

Don't know about the original poster's reason but my dish is about in the same place as his and I actually asked for it to be placed there. On the west coast we get the occasional snow storm and when we do it is really wet sticky snow. You don't know how frustrating it is to get a ladder out and climb up to clear the snow off the dish every 10 to 15 minutes. At least putting the dish near the ground I can sweep it off without the hassle of climbing up and down a wet slippery ladder.

Of course now I have to worry about the darn thing getting stolen

I installed my dish on my garage roof because that was the only part of my property that was not obstructed by large trees.

Could try craigslist, sometimes I see people selling or giving away dish's on there.

A replacement dish is usually about $25 used and you can find a SW44 for about the same. As mentioned, everyone should take responsibility for anything on their property.

Dish care would not cover it.

Your home insurance would but it is likely less than the deductable.

As far as I know Bell installers are supposed to install the switch on a plate on the back of the dish.

As mentioned already check out kijiji, craigslist and you should be able to get replacements for approx. $50
