stillgolfing, the 211K solo is similar to the 6141/31 here is the manual from Dishnetwork, see chapter 10, page 76 for DVR setup. Here is Bell's info. which is relatively new addition to their website.

Thanks for the quick response and the link. However, that is where I started earlier today. I did go back and read every post (per Hugh's initial recommendation), however. it appears most of the posted questions and response info relates to 9241 and 9242 recievers which I assume are also PVR's, hence members questions are more using an EHD for archiving rather than as a PVR. Also, you found the one relevant post, but even it would just be an additional "NOTE" that a Technical Writer would add at the end of a step by step procedure, but wouldn't be relevant during that procedure. So let me ask the question again as clearly as I can. Does anyone here know where I can find a step by step procedure for adding and setting up an EHD as a PVR for my 6131 receiver. Thanks SG |

Thanks DR. The "Bell Info" isn't all I dreamed it could be, but it helps!
Cheers, SG |

I am a current victim of the forced 'upgrade from a 9200 to a 9241 and a 5900. The only bright side I see is the use of an external HD on either/both new PVR's.
Can I record something on 1 of the PVR's (9241 or 5900) onto the external drive, then move the external drive to the other PVR and watch the recorded program there?

I don't believe the 5900 accepts an external drive.

Your post was moved to this appropriate thread. The answer to your question is in post 2 of the eHDD Facts thread:
http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=100773 Drives can only be moved between 9241 & 9242, or 6131 & 6141. Not the 5900, and not between 6 & 9XXXs series

Just to add to 57's post, not that it helps you at all Jambsi, Drives can be swapped between 6131/6141 & 6400's providing they are all on the same account.

Thanks Pinza. I've added the 6400 to the Facts thread and cleaned the thread up a bit, including some dead links, etc.
Since I'm not a BTV customer, let me know if there is any incorrect info in that Facts thread.

If I pull the HD out of my 9200 and put it into an EHD enclosure, will it work on my 9241? Or will it reformat on me?

I just bought a Seagate external hard drive, but this one is USB-powered only. Now I see that the Model 6400 USB doesn't have enough power for the drive, so to get around this can I use a powered USB hub to supply the power to the drive, or will the 6400 not work with a hub? This solution will be cheaper than getting another external drive with external power (getting somewhat harder to find anyway, most of them now are USB-powered).

Update: To answer my own question, yes it does work. I went out and bought a powered hub, connected it and the EHD to the hub, rebooted receiver, it discovered the EHD, reformatted, working fine.

Hello,
I have a 9242 with a 1TB Western Digital external HD. Everything worked perfectly for about 1 year (I watched and deleted a few shows no later than yesterday), but since this morning, I have some weird problems. 1. I cannot pause or stop an event. Whenever I hit one of those two buttons, the image freezes and I have to press Live or Chan +/- to get back to live TV. Skip and fast rev/fwd work without any problem. 2. I cannot delete events from the EHD. Whenever I try it, the Deleting progress dialog shows, but disappears very quickly (much quicker than it would usually take to delete the event) and the event is still there. 3. I cannot archive anything, I get an 855 error stating that there was an error transferring events to the HD. I tried the usual suspects, reset the IRD with the power button, unplug everything and back. It seems that my HD has switched to read only mode somehow. Stop/Pause buttons could be freezing while trying to write the progress back to the HD (for resuming purposes). Did anybody ever have the same problems? I would like to explore my possibilities before trying to reformat the EHD. Thanks |

Has anyone used the Lacie Minimus external hard drive with a 6131? There's a sale on the 2TB model ($99) and I'd like to know what you guys think.

I think I have solved my problem, I ran e2fsck with a ubuntu live CD, it found a bunch of errors that it fixed, and now it works.

Hello,
I have a 1TB External Hard Drive I've been using with my Bell Expressvu for a couple of years now. Then the other day I get an error message: ![]() I have a 6131 receiver. I switched to another 6131 receiver that I had in my basement and it made no difference. Nothing changed on my end, it went from working perfectly to the error. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. |
