Just a follow up. I plugged anouther dive into my 9242 let it be formated and it came up no problem. I plugged it and my old 2tb in and booted with Ubuntu and it looks like all my recordings are there. I was going to move them over to the new drive I formatted but it is saying I don't have permission I tried to share the folder and give permission but it wouldn't let me. Is there an easy way to move the files over or as I see they are all still on my original drive a program to run whatever might be preventing the 9242 for recognizing it and keep rebooting.. Thanks..

Red face external hard drive

Have a bell hd 6131 satellite receiver would like to hook up a seagate expansion external hard drive. I have movies already on this hard drive. When I hook it up is going to ask to format this drive.

Yes it will need to format it, you cannot use the drive for anything else but the 6131.

I have 3 x 6131 receivers with seagate ehd's since oct 2010 .
family room , bedroom , bedroom

the one in family room started acting up last week.
-it would start freezing for a few seconds while playing back a recorded event , then be fine for 20 minutes , then freeze more often to the point where you get fed up.

I've unplugged everything & done several reboots with the end result being same .Works fine for around 30 minutes then the symptoms start .

I've brought one of the ehd's from the bedroom and plugged it into the family room 6131 unit and it worked fine . I then plugged the wonky ehd into the bedroom 6131 and it displayed same symtoms .

I'm not a tech savvy guy so I'm looking for a simple answer -even if that answer is ''its pooched , go buy another one ''

could the guys at futureshop fix this for a half decent fee or am I better off just snagging a new one ?

Hey couch.

I bought a seagate drive to go with my 6131 a few years ago. It seems to me that it has a 5-year warranty.

the warranty is 2 years -1 instore , 2nd via seagate .

hooked it up when she came home and is working fine so far .

Default Moving files to new hard drive

Can someone tell me how to move files from one hard drive with BEV movie files from an external hard drive to a new hard drive that I all ready let the 9220 format. I tried with Ubuntu and it looks like all my recordings are there. I was going to move them over to the new drive I formatted but it is saying I don't have permission I tried to share the folder and give permission but it wouldn't let me. Is there a simple way I can just copy and paste to the new drive or a easy program so use. Any help would be great...

Default EHD Recomendation/Suggestion

I have a 9242 . I am using a Seagate GoFlex 1.5TB USB 2.0 External Desktop Hard Drive (STAC1500100). I bought it at Best Buy in Jan for $99. It is on sale at Staples this Saturday, April 14th ONLY!! for $69.98!! It has worked flawlessly for me. It meets all of the protocols listed as being required.

External power
USB 2.0
7200 RPM

It does have sleep mode enabled but Seagate makes a piece of software, that lets you mange physical drive settings, not just windows settings
There is an option there to set it to "Never Sleep"
The software is on Seagates' website under: downlaods/external drives/expansion drive/Seagate drive Settings For Windows or access it here:
http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.js...001a48090aRCRD

I originally found this solution By member "MackOne" in the Telus Forum : http://digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=111553

I hooked up my Seagate EHD to my 9242 to format it 1st and then hooked the hard drive to my laptop to adjust the sleep mode settings. I actually set mine to "SLEEP" after 5 Hours so that it's not constantly running when it's not being used. When it is in Sleep Mode and you access the PVR function, there is about a 10 sec delay until the menu shows on the screen. But if you're like me, it is rare to go longer than 5 hours without using the PVR menu. I also just push the PVR button when I 1st turn on the 9242 and by the time my TV warms up the PVR menu is displayed as well.
The never sleep function would be good for the 6131's/6141.

I don't know why you would want to as you get very little hrs of record time.

The 9241 is brand new but cant be activated on my account, already have a 1 tb on one of my 6131's for archiving, just want to be able to pause and rewind on my other 6131 or my 6141, got the 9241 for free and its useless so i thought id use the hard drive out of it so i dont have to shell out $100 on another external hd, just wondering if it will work, the drive in the 9241 is a seagate and my 1tb external is a seagate and ive had no problems at all with it

Dare I ask why it cannot be activated.? PM me if you prefer.

To answer your question, yes it can be used, it will format when you connect it.

That does not normally stop Bell from activating it on another account as they would pursue the original Customer for the balance owing. Now if it was a Rental Unit, that would make sense.

Question 6400 With 6131 EHD?

I picked up a 6400 and I'm going to swap it with the 6131 I have at my Montana home this weekend, after I hook it up I will call to have it activated, and I was wondering if I can use the EHD on the 6131 thats currently down there or will it want to reformat? I know the 6141/6131 - 9424/9241 are compatible as long as they are on the same account but wasn't sure if the 6400 is or not.
