**UPDATE**
Gave up with the NexStar enclosure, went out today and got a INEO enclosure module I-NA318U, installed my WD Caviar Blue 500Gb in it, connected it to my 6141 and just as quick as that I now have a PVR fonction on my receiver. So the problem was not the HDD but the enclosure. |

Hi guys,
I have been reading the various threads and have tried most of the suggestions on this forum. My situation is that I have a NexStar CX (NST-300SU-BK) enclosure along with a WD Black (W1001FALS - 7200rpm, 1TB, no sleep mode). The only sign of life I get is when I leave the enclosure + EHD connected to the 6131, reboot the 6131 by holding down the power button for a few secs and then powering down the enclosure... I get the message - A USB device has been disconnected etc. I never get a format screen however. I started off this fun week with a NexStar 3 which I notice many people were having issues with. I did not even get the USB device has been disconnected message with that enclosure and the same EHD. At this point I figure the NexStar CX is actually working as I get that USB message but perhaps there is something wrong with the EHD type I have. Just wondering if anyone has had any recent success using a NexStar CX enclosure and if so, what EHD (specific manufacturer + model #) did you use. Thanks for your help! Mike |

Just added a 2TB EHD (Seagate's Barracuda LP 2TB hard drive)+(Nexstar CX Model NST-300S2-BK) to my 9241. Ended up with 267h HD and 2010h SD. Haven't encountered an issues so far with this setup I will post again if I do.

I just added a Western Digital Elements 1.5 TB drive to my 9242. Didn't know that the 2 TB could be used at the time i ordered it. It formatted fine even though it's not a 7200 rpm drive. Now becomes the time consuming effort of transferring all my recordings from my 640 GB Hitachi drive to my 9242 and back to my 1.5 TB WD drive.

Well I went upstairs this morning to find my 1tb simpletech ehd clicking away. Also the receivers power light was on and I never leave them turned on, so I figure it was something to do with the 6131's nightly update. Anyway the drive is shot after 2 years of use. Goodthing when I bought a 2tb for my 9242 I also picked up an extra 1tb drive as they where both on sale. only bad thing is I lost about 40hrs of stuff.

Hi Blackloz, can you turn off your EHD daily? I have read on here that it is not advisable to do this. I purchased a 1TB Verbatim drive for my 6131 over Christmas. I would like to hold onto it for as long as I can. It`s on 24/7 right now. Thanks JoeB

Yes I always leave the ehd's on all the time. Its the receivers I turn off/screen saver mode. Now that I think about it, it probally didn't help the fact that I was hooking up a BD player on that tv and I bumped the little stand that the ehd is on and it fell and hit the hard wood floor. That was on boxing day and it still worked fine until today.

1. 9242
2. Seagate FreeAgent 2TB GoFlex Desk External Drive 3. Can Archive recordings to HDD and they show up on Ex HDD 4. Next time I turn on the Receiver the recordings are gone from Ex HDD until I reboot the receiver then they are back, this happens every time. ** UPDATE** I ended up returning this drive as I connected it to 4 different computers and not one would recognize it, they would see it in device manager but not in my computer. |

When you first install the drive it is formatted by the 9242, if you used Linux, you could probably see what was on the drive. Was the drive one that would go to sleep, and when you rebooted the 9242 could then see it again?
You could have reformatted it with your computer and used it on your computer. I assume no problems returning it.? Note: If this is the drive, http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/pro...reeagent_desk/ it says it goes to sleep after 15 minutes of being idle, which doesn't met the criteria for an EHD for Bell PVRs.

As mentioned above, this is one of the drives not recommended since it spins down. From the FAQ thread:

How would I reformat the drive if my PC doesn't recognize it or it doesn't show up in my computer?

It might be possible to disable the drive's sleep mode with hdparm under Linux. Not all drives support changing sleep parameters though. I've noticed that some WD drives don't.
