W5, CTV’s current affairs program which has been on air since 1966, returns to for a new season this weekend with a new look and for the first time, will be broadcast in high definition.
In the season premiere on Saturday, October 24 at 7 p.m. ET reporter Paula Todd examines the dangers of All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) while reporter Victor Malarek goes undercover to investigate the black market for spouses willing to wed for money. With more than 100 Canadian deaths in 2009 alone, W5 discovers virtually non-existent safety regulations in Canada that may leave drivers of the popular off-road vehicles at risk of injury and death. W5 puts several ATVs to the test in an effort to determine just how prone they are to tipping. In the ATV piece, Todd explains that despite almost a million Canadians owning an ATV, the public is generally unaware of the dangers associated with these recreational vehicles. In Alberta, where ATV injuries and fatalities are on the rise, W5 interviews Alberta Transportation Minister Luke Ouellette. In 2002, Ouellette promised to create a new ATV safety law, which was to include new helmet requirements and a minimum age for riders. To date, no ATV safety act has been drafted or passed despite the increase in preventable injuries and deaths. On the opposite side of the debate are those who say it’s the ATV rider’s skill level and blatant disregard for safety that are to blame for the high accident rate, not the safety standards that are set by the ATV’s industry. Also in the season premiere, reporter Victor Malarek discovers that there is a thriving black market for spouses willing to wed for money. W5 goes undercover in a hidden-camera investigation and reveals immigration consultants willing to arrange illegal marriages for cash to obtain Canadian citizenship.

I've seen a few episodes of W5 on CTV in real HD since this past summer(most other episodes were SD):
- Hell In Manners - Lost Adventure Of Childhood - S&M: Short & Male These are probably re-run from under a different doumentary series. I'm pretty sure I've seen "Short & Male" before. |

Unfortunately this program is often buried in the saturday night tv limbo land. Just another example of meeting the Cancon requirements but really not carring if anyone watches.

I disagree about Saturdays. South Park, Sit Down Shut Up and Glenn Martin DDS all air new episodes on Saturday. Plus I also PVR TV with TV's Jonathan Torrens on Saturday because there's usually other stuff going on on Fridays. The Whistler re-runs on /A\ are also watched in my household.

Sit Down Shut Up is cancelled, they're just burning off episodes now.

I know - but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy watching them on Saturdays!
