Default FlashPlayer 10.1 for Smartphones unveiled

At Adobe’s worldwide developer conference today, the company unveiled Flash Player 10.1 software which will enable Adobe Flash content to be viewed on many popular smartphones including Blackberry's, as well as netbooks and other internet devices.

Flash Player 10.1 incorporates support for multitouch, gestures, mobile input models, accelerometer and screen orientation functionality. It also will integrate new content protection powered by Adobe Flash Access 2.0 into HTTP streaming of media delivery.

Unfortunately, for iPhone owners, an Apple version of Flash Player is not in the works.

In a written statement released today, Adobe said a public developer beta of the browser-based runtime is expected to be available for Windows Mobile, Palm WebOS and desktop operating systems including Windows, Macintosh and Linux later this year. Public betas for Google Android and Symbian OS are expected to be available in early 2010.

David Wadhwani, general manager and vice president of the platform business unit at Adobe, said the first devices with full Flash Player will ship in the first half of 2010.

It is nice to see that they are supporting other platforms. Now if only they would support Windows 64-bit platform.
