Angry Modern Family - missing dialogue

Did anybody watch Modern Family tonight? There were several minutes of dialogue missing on ABC HD (sound was still coming out of the centre channel...just no dialogue). Did this happen to anyone else?

Sometimes this can happen when someone flips the wrong switch, or something's mixed improperly, especially on DD5.1 audio.

I usually recommend turning on the Closed Captioning when this happens.

Dagnamit! That's a great idea, 57. Too bad I already deleted it from the PVR

I noticed this a few times last year on ABC. CC works well (but still annoying). Another option is to switch to the analog audio (If you have it connected) - I think the dialog came through fine there.

Analogue audio will work sometimes, but if the audio track has been deleted during the encoding at the affiliate/source, then it won't help.

Agreed. In the times it has happened, only the Center channel is missing (all the other 4.1 are there).

Didn't notice anything when I watched it. I was watching ABC HD EAST on Shaw Direct satellite.

I think it was a problem only with the Seattle HD feed of ABC.

Modern Family - missing dialogue
That's a growing problem in Canada and the U.S.
The modern family seems to be more segregated into parts, and none of the parts are talking to each other. Dad has his job and money on his mind, Mom has her job and lack of money on her mind, and the kids have so many damned tech toys that they can't spare a few minutes for family dialogue even if they could think of something to say.
I know this thread refers to the sound on the TV cutting out - but the title says the real problem with the modern family.
