Since the Pace can passthrough all the signals (unlike Motorola), then you ask the TV to stretch any SD channels. TVs remember the stretch modes for SD (480i/P) signals separately from HD (1080i/720P) signals.
Only those TVs with "auto-stretch" (there are a few) can automatically stretch HD signals (like 4:3 upconverts). I usually don't recommend using them though since the stretch mode then changes for upconverted commercials on HD programming and there is a significant delay before it kicks in - I find this very annoying. I recommend people watch 4:3 upconverts on HD channels "as is" for the best PQ and an undistorted picture, especially if you don't have a plasma (where burn in can be a concern, but 4:3 upconverts probably represents a very small percentage of the viewing, therefore not really a concern even on plasmas).

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how a show can be recorded on one box and then played back on another? |

the annomly occured, and I've recorded stuff after too. Thanks anyway. And I also see others have experienced the FF/Rev headache. I'm considering dropping the Pace and going to the Moto unit after seeing all the problems with the Pace that the Moto doesn't. |

Yup, that's it, and you can restart from the beginning and it just ends up at the end again. The PVR appears to act sluggist too when playing these programs. I wonder if the files are corrupt because all you can do is delete them.

Okay, I'll try that next time, I guess worst case it formats the drive and erases everthing. Another new thing that has occured is that it says recordings have been interrupted and I don't see a valid reason for the interruptions. The unit is on a ups. Have you encountered this on your unit?

Yup, this is one of the problems I have seen. I wouldn't expect it to format the drive. My Aspen is, but my Summit is not, on a UPS.
The details of what I, and others have seen on our Aspens, is in the thread Pace Aspen TDC776D to be introduced, http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=95916. My most recent comments there start on page 18 around post 264. I am really sorry to hear that Summits may be afflicted with the same problems. When you have problems again, also go into the diagnostics and check out the 24 Content Listing screen. Go into the details for the recording that isn't working and check out the MPEG Fileand Trick File sizes, given as size1 {size2}. Perhaps you can post some screen shots or summaries of the 24 Content Listing file sizes and the 82 HDD Drive Statistics listings when you next have problems. |

Here is a baseline of an 82 HDD Drive Statistics screen for a new Pace Summit with Shaw Expander, with no recordings. Sorry, I cannot get the spacing quite right. I think we'll be needing this because I am reading reports that the problems afflicting the Aspen may also be afflicting the Summit.
Question: Does invoking this screen just provide reports or does it effect repairs too? -- HDD Drive Statistics internal HDD is none external HDD is/dev/sda df.
