Since the Pace can passthrough all the signals (unlike Motorola), then you ask the TV to stretch any SD channels. TVs remember the stretch modes for SD (480i/P) signals separately from HD (1080i/720P) signals.

Only those TVs with "auto-stretch" (there are a few) can automatically stretch HD signals (like 4:3 upconverts). I usually don't recommend using them though since the stretch mode then changes for upconverted commercials on HD programming and there is a significant delay before it kicks in - I find this very annoying.

I recommend people watch 4:3 upconverts on HD channels "as is" for the best PQ and an undistorted picture, especially if you don't have a plasma (where burn in can be a concern, but 4:3 upconverts probably represents a very small percentage of the viewing, therefore not really a concern even on plasmas).

It's really unfortunate that the HD can't be moved to a 2nd Summit without losing what's on there. I was really hoping that it can be done. It seems that Bell HDPVRs are the only ones that allow you to move a HD between boxes so that you can record on one and watch on another.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how a show can be recorded on one box and then played back on another?

Hey Dave, no I do get that channel because I've recorded shows on that channel before
the annomly occured, and I've recorded stuff after too. Thanks anyway. And I also see
others have experienced the FF/Rev headache. I'm considering dropping the Pace and going to the Moto unit after seeing all the problems with the Pace that the Moto doesn't.

Do you actually get 30, or 60, or whatever, minutes of blank playback or does attempting to play the recording give you the screens mentioned in http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/show...&postcount=273?

Yup, that's it, and you can restart from the beginning and it just ends up at the end again. The PVR appears to act sluggist too when playing these programs. I wonder if the files are corrupt because all you can do is delete them.

I bought this model of Pace on Oct 7, and have been giving it the benefit of the doubt. From the unreliable recordings, the problems with rewinding and fast-forwarding, I have finally lost patience with it and returned it to SHAW and bought a Motorola 3416.
Hopefully they fix this soon, I can live with the random fast-forward / rewind . I cannot live with the constant missing recordings and even worse, it losing the last 10 minutes of shows. It says 60 minutes on the recording but when I start it it only has 48 to 50 minutes then abruptly stops. This has happened to me 3 times now.

On the Summit (not the Aspen as far as I can tell so far) the following opens up an additonal HD diagnostic screen
Quote:
From the diags main menu (not the dashboard), press 8 then 2 (i.e. 82) and hit enter.
What I don't yet know is if it also does any repairs. The next time that you have one of these failures why not try it and see what happens? Sorry, I don't know what, if any, risks are associated with doing this. I have opened up this screen on my Summit without ill effects but ....

My Summit has not yet failed so I cannot check whether any repairs are done myself, yet.

How do I get into the diags main menu? I haven't seen this in the manual.

Okay, I'll try that next time, I guess worst case it formats the drive and erases everthing. Another new thing that has occured is that it says recordings have been interrupted and I don't see a valid reason for the interruptions. The unit is on a ups. Have you encountered this on your unit?

Yup, this is one of the problems I have seen. I wouldn't expect it to format the drive. My Aspen is, but my Summit is not, on a UPS.

The details of what I, and others have seen on our Aspens, is in the thread Pace Aspen TDC776D to be introduced, http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=95916. My most recent comments there start on page 18 around post 264. I am really sorry to hear that Summits may be afflicted with the same problems.

When you have problems again, also go into the diagnostics and check out the 24 Content Listing screen. Go into the details for the recording that isn't working and check out the MPEG Fileand Trick File sizes, given as size1 {size2}.

Perhaps you can post some screen shots or summaries of the 24 Content Listing file sizes and the 82 HDD Drive Statistics listings when you next have problems.

Default 82 HDD Drive Statistics Baseline

Here is a baseline of an 82 HDD Drive Statistics screen for a new Pace Summit with Shaw Expander, with no recordings. Sorry, I cannot get the spacing quite right. I think we'll be needing this because I am reading reports that the problems afflicting the Aspen may also be afflicting the Summit.

Question: Does invoking this screen just provide reports or does it effect repairs too?
