How is that a negative? It's the largest internal drive available and you can always add an external 'expander' for more storage.

OK, so you add the 1TB drive to the 3400 and you have 1.5TB of storage, 50% more than you had before. I still don't see how the 3400 is a 'negative'.

That is if Shaw doesn't take the 1TB drive away which I am sure that Shaw will take both the STB and the drive.

Good point. I guess I was assuming he would have kept his expander or had more than one. I do get tunnel vision sometimes. Since I have three of them, I forget not everyone is as much of a TV addict as I am.

tech wouldn't let me keep the 1TB expander and worse, when I asked what they did with them , he said they just throw them out

Ouch! I would have made a deal for $50 or maybe more since that is the cheapest they have been sold for in the past. You probably would have had to call while the tech was there but I wouldn't have let him walk out with it like that.

Isn't is just incredible how wasteful 'the system' is?

I got my DC758D and expander swaped out for a DCX3400 when it stopped working as well and they wouldn't let me keep the expander either. I even offered to buy a new one but wanted it for $50 and no go. I'm still extremely happy with the free upgrade though, the Motorola is a much better box even with the smaller hard drive and 4:3 guide.

Interesting question, did they only put the expanders down to $50 once or is it common to do it at a certain time of year? If so I am going to wait till they go down to $50 before I buy another.

I have only seen them priced that low once. At that time, I thought it was the 'new price' rather than a short term thing. I guess Shaw does the 'low price for a certain time' thing at their will. The same thing happened with the Gateway system.

I find it hard to believe they wouldn't sell you a 'used' expander rather than just throwing it away. It's not like you don't know how it has been performing since you had it from new. I have to agree that the 3400 has a better picture and I wasn't upset when I replaced my last Pace with one.

I came back from reffing last night and my 758D had power and the Resolution light lit up but not the time display and I could not do anything. I reseted it and it went back to normal.

I'd call them and see if they'll replace it. It took some wrangling but I'm certainly happy with the results. Wish I'd done it sooner.

I haven't really had any problems with my 758D. It is in my bedroom with limited recordings.

^mine was 99.9% rock solid for 2 years, rarely over 40% then toast. At least failed while still under warranty.

Side note, interesting the warranty with the Pace was 3 years, the Motorola 1.
