Without bias to either brand, which model makes the most sense to buy these days if looking for modern features, excellent blacks and PQ? A Kuro or Panasonic V series if lets say the price was equivalent?
My research leads me to believe the Panasonic V series offer great PQ and excellent blacks at an affordable price. The Kuro is still regarded as King and the prices are coming down. Which to get? |

I am getting my TC-P65V10 on Monday. From what I understand, this is the first Panny that uses "Pioneer" plasma technology as Pioneer is no longer making TV's.
I have no idea if it is a load of crap or not...time will tell I guess. |

Greetings
The black levels of the V series are about equivalent to the Gen 8 Kuro sets. The ones available in the stores right now are the 9th generation panels from pioneer. In terms of Black levels ... expect panasonic to match pioneer with the sets that debut in CES in January. Dollar for dollar, the Panasonic is a great value compared to the Pioneer. Add a $80 back light to the TV and that black level gap narrows tremendously to virtually nothing. regards

The black levels of the Kuro are still superior...I've seen both side by side. It's also a matter of colour balance & trueness of colour. The Pioneer is wayyy out in front in that comparison as well. Bang for the buck is a reason to take a good look at The Panny, but....
I mentioned in another post that the prices for the Kuros are down by a huge margin. Pioneer Canada is getting nervous with the stockpile they have sitting in the warehouse (the fiscal is creeping up fast, and they need to be rid of the panels!) Great time for consumers to take advantage! Seriously, a deal like this comes around hardly ever! The PRO-141 60" monitor was 8K, now it's listed on their website for $5700!!! It'd be cheaper through a retailer too I'd imagine...I'd jump on it!! |

The best research is with your own eyes. Find a way of comparing roughly similar models side by side with the same source.
I find that Pioneer has a certain PQ that is unique and more (analogue like) than other displays. This is not an easily measurable attribute but one you have to see for yourself. |

Thanks for your help. I plan to shop around and compare these sets closely. Looking for something bigger in the 60" range.
I got the wife approval with the condition that this set has to last for years to come so I must choose wisely |

Yes they are nice displays. I am not sorry I splurged a bit on one of them. I have had essentially flawless operation in the ~8 months I've had one. Actually, I think it's better in some subtle ways than when it was new. Important to have a very good source though, you don't want to see poor sources in all their great detail... |

Yup...agreed! I've had my 141 nearly 11 mths. I still have a huge grin everytime I walk into my HT to turn it on!
A good source is key indeed...with any large, quality panel I s'ppose. |

Greetings
Referring to an add on back light illuminating a d6500 light. Neither set is meant to be watched in a dark room without ambient light. regards

Stockpile? That would be nice. Perhaps that excessive stock will linger into the holiday season and prices could drop further.

I think that's a safe bet! Keep a keen eye on the prices as March approaches! I think that's their fiscal (but don't quote me)
Now, if we could just get the price of Blurays to drop to reasonable levels... |

So what is still around in Canada? Kuro 6020 and 5020 or just the Elite's? What are the last gen Pioneer Elite 50" and 60" sizes and their model numbers again?

My dealer has suggested that for the 50" s the 101 has good supply but the 111 is not long for the world. I am not sure about the 151, but the 141 seems to be in decent supply.
