The CBS website seems to indicate not: http://www.cbs.com/info/schedule/index.php

Perhaps it's because it is a hard show to film? My husband used to carpool with a guy who had a friend who was a cameraman for it and Survivor. He quit AR after having to sit backwards on a scooter while it weaved through the streets in Vietnam--too dangerous!

If it ever goes HD we will know months before it airs.

I can't see it happening without somebody like Sony stepping forward.

SD Widescreen wouldn't be any harder or more dangerous. What's more dangerous than a cameraman with a massive light storming a house full of armed drug dealers like they did on Cops? Fox had that down *years* ago. Besides, with how bad cable companies and simsubs degrade the picture, there's not going to be that much difference between SD widescreen and the soft HD that most of us get.

Amazing Race could be an HD program fairly easily. Static setups like the interviews, mat chats, detours, speed bumps, etc could easily be handled with single HD cameras. Then just insert SD widescreen for the field shots and helmet mounts and things.

When people see $200 HD camcorders available (that are very portable) in the the store, it makes it harder to accept this reasoning.

Too many people out there can ask themselves, "I could film Amazing Race in HD with equipment that I personally own -- why can't CBS? After 14 seasons, they should have been able to save up enough to buy some HD handcams." Sony would likely give them a deal on 10.

Of course, it likely comes back to the "TV stations can't use consumer-grade equipment" issue, although I'd prefer consumer grade HD over professional grade 4:3 SD.

I'm not sure I can watch another season if it is not HD, or at least widescreen SD.

Someone on the Amazing Race team should watch an episode of Survivor. I think HD has definately given that show a boost -- it is some of the nicest looking HD on network TV.

The only reason I can see that they don't do this is that they can't be bothered. The show is broadcasted in HD so there is no reason why at least some of it couldn't actually be HD.

EDIT: While there are $200 HD camcorders available, you would likely want to spend $1000 and get one of the hard drive ones, along with some spare memory cards. But even $1500 per set should be affordable for CBS, being a big media conglomerate and all.

I'm you're recording the CBS feed, you may want to add a few minutes each week.

I am so pissed. I'm watching the Amazing Race on CBS. The first 15 minutes was 60 Minutes. Once 60 Minutes ends the Amazing Race is joined in progress with CTV sim-subbing the feed. This did not happen last year. If the feed was delayed you only got the CBS feed.

Now I have to PVR the first 15 minutes from the West coast because of sim-subbing.

Edit: now The Amazing Race is back to the CBS feed and I'm seeing the feed from the start (more or less).

My wife asked if she should PVR the CBS or the CTV feed. I told her always pick CTV during football season due to 60 Minutes starting late because of football.

I was really disappointed with this premiere. The "sushi" bit was waaayyyyy too long. Actually, the whole episode was. Everything that happened could have been edited down to an hour. I will give it another week, but this may be the first "Race" since the start that I don't follow...

In Calgary, the CTV feed of Cold Case cut in at 8:00 with 20 minutes of The Amazing Race still to go. Who do people complain to when this crap happens (and keeps happening)?

THe local station, the national network, the producers of the show in question and the CRTC. You can start with some of the threads in the Canadian Television Industry / Channels and Providers forum.

Only 1 comment on the actual show so far? I'm watching it tonight so have none of my own at this time.

I hate the "non-profit" poker players. Not impressed with how the first team went home.

This wasn't really a 2 hour premier but two one hour episodes.

The duck thing lasted too long. Didn't mind the Japanese Game Show.

Glad to see this show back.

Agreed. I find it very ironic that they couldn't hold their bluff for more than the first week!

A good recap is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Amazing_Race_15

It also contains all "legs" of the race. No spoilers that I came across so don't be afraid to click.
